Recommended: the second amendment debate

Written on December 15, 1791 was the second amendment of the constitution. It states that "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."(Cite)? United States citizens have used guns for various reasons that include protection, hunting, and sporting reasons. The topic on gun control is a very complex topic that is discussed daily. It is such a big issue that it has both the democrats and republicans firmly established in their positions. One of the main reasons this has been such an important topic in recent years is because of all the murders and massacres that have happened recently in the United States. As our newly nominated president, Donald Trump states “If you had guns on the other side, you would not of have had the tragedy that you had, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” The government thinks that by enacting more laws and stricter control, society would be a better and safer place because less people would own a firearm. I believe that as an American citizen, it is our fundamental right to bear arms and that no matter how many new laws they make, they will have …show more content…

Fundamental rights are a group of rights that have been recognized by the Supreme Court as requiring a high degree of protection from government encroachment. These rights are specifically identified in the Constitution. It is important to have rights as a human because human rights are standards that allow all people to live with dignity, freedom, equality, justice, and peace. Every person has these rights simply because they are human beings and all human beings should be entitled to having rights including the rights to the second amendment.
