The 1920's were a time of Prohibition, Illegal Gambling, and Prostitution. The 18th amendment made the sale and distribution of alcohol illegal. Many people including Al Capone were involved in those illegal activities. Al Capone was notorious for this illegal activity. He got rich by manufacturing and distributing alcohol. He also owned many illegal bars. Many other gangs were doing the same illegal activity. There was competition over the alcohol. Every gang wanted it since that was how they made their money. In order to make money they had to eliminate the opposing gangs to decrease the competition. Al Capone never did any of the killings. He had his gang members do the killing. They would usually rent a room in front of the victim's house to stay hidden. Then they would wait for the victim to come outside. Then the gang members would shoot the person. Another way is they would do a drive-by and has someone in the car blast the victim with an Uzi or Thompson machine gun.
One of the most famous and recognizable gang wars was between Al Capone and George Bugs' Moran. This took place in Chicago, Illinois on February 14,1929. This was called The Saint Valentines Day Massacre'. In the morning at a brick building which was a liquor storage building. Five men who were members of the Irish/German gang under control by George Moran. They were there because they thought there was going to be a truck of hijacked whiskey. While the 7 men were inside the building, a black car pulled up to the building. George Moran had spotted the car and he took cover.
Al was responsible for these deaths. He sent a team of four men to kill Bugs Moran a Chicago prohibition gangster and his men. Two of Al's men dressed as cops and lined the men up against the wall of a warehouse. The other two came in with machine guns and shot and killed all of them. Bugs was not there however, Al’s men thought he was. Six of the people killed were Moran’s men, the seventh was a mechanic who happened to be there fixing cars. This opened a perspective for all gang member across America and gave wrong impressions to be used in the way gangs operate today. Now the way gangs tend to fix their problems with people of threats of their business and money is only fixed through viloence. The story and pictures were publicized everywhere across America bringing the fear into the regular citizens eyes of gangs making the future of gangs stronger and more feared today. Al Capone (Alfonso or Alphonse Capone) was born in 1899 and passed away in the year of 1947. Once he had been brought up in New York City, Capone became connected with crimes and was the subject of murder investigations. In 1920 he moved to Chicago and became a lieutenant to John Torrio, a notorious gang leader. They established numerous speakeasies in Chicago in the Prohibition era. After eliminating his opponents, "Scarface" Capone took over control from Torrio. He was implicated in brutal murders and received tribute from businessmen and politicians. With the prohibition came possibilities for large alcohol based profits. Torrio knew that Big Jim could make extremely large amounts of money, but Colosimo could not be persuaded to try his hand. Lives were alway in danger during the prohibition era because of the measure people would take to ensure their own safety. it was survival of the fittest and the gangster of the era and organized crime were at the top of the food chain.
Once in Chicago, Capone went to work for Yale's old mentor, John Torrio, who also became godfather to his son. Torrio saw Capone's potential, his combination of physical strength and intelligence, and took him under his wing. In January 1920, the 18th Amendment of the Prohibition Act came into force, which made the brewing, distilling and distribution of alcohol completely illegal. The era of Prohibition was underway, and Chicago's criminal underworld, including Johnny Torrio who was prepared to make bootlegging alcohol a very profitable business. Around the end of 1920 Capone's father tragically died, but Capone was doing well in Chicago venture and did not go astray. At just 22 years of age Capone became Torrio's partner in his Chicago businesses, and was Torrio's number-two man helping to mange the bootlegging, saloons, gambling houses, and even the brothels. Capone now had greater responsibilities and was given the opportunity to expand the operation to the Chicago suburb of Cicero.

In the roaring twenties, the life of organized crimes was at its peak. What was the greatest mob hit ever pulled off in history? Well I'll tell you. It all happened on Valentines Day, the morning of February 14th, 1929. This incident was call, "The St. Valentines Day Massacre". The man behind this infamous crime was none other than, the infamous Al "Scarface" Capone. Al Capone was the all time greatest mobster of all time. The idea of organized crime fascinates me in so many ways. Capone was the only person to have pulled off such a crime. Al Capone was top gangster in Chicago and was one of the greatest members of the Italian Mafia and George "Bugs" Moran was the leader of the Irish/German mafia and he was the main target behind this hit. He targeted Capone because Al Capones had a bounty on his head, $60,000,000, and found George Moran as a threat. George was Capone's biggest threat of all. He needed to take him out quickly. Using a magazine will too but it was very hard to find a 20's magazine article.
