Personal Narrative: My First Football Team

It’s eight in the morning, and it’s so silent on the bus that you can hear a pin drop. The final soccer game of the season was on April 5th, it was a bitter sweet feeling. The game didn’t start for another hour, but my coach had wanted the team to get there early so we could do warm up drills. On the bus ride to the stadium I kept to myself just listening to music trying to get in the zone. My team was going against the best team in our division. This game was all about redemption; we had lost to this team the year before, and it ruined our chances of qualifying for state. To some people it was just a game, but to my team and I it was the modern day World War 2. As we approach the field that’s when the whispers on the bus start. As the bus came to a screeching halt everyone on the bus started to talk strategy. We walk off the bus together heading towards the locker room when we see the other team. The team we were facing seemed to be better than us in every way. The offenders carry the ball towards the other teams, and all I can do is wait. One of the other team’s offenders steal the ball from one of my teammates and she’s heading in my direction. I ready myself to go full charge at her to steal the ball from her. As I go to get the ball from her she elbows me right in the mouth, and all I can do is fall to the ground and hold my mouth. The pain hits me by surprise, and all I can do is fall to my knees. I hear the whistle being blown, and I see one of the refs throw a flag. As I was getting to my feet I see my coach at the corner of my eye running towards me making sure I was alright.
