The Dark Path: Hamlet 's Quest for Revenge As the classic tale opens Hamlet, the prince of Denmark is attending his father’s funeral. A death, that to this point is of no suspect of any type of foul play to the protagonist or those aligned with him. After close to two months’ time goes by and his mother, Gertrude, was wed to his uncle, Claudius, Hamlet begins to have suspicions about his late father’s cause of death. He begins to ponder about how his father came to be deceased. Hamlet’s suspicions about his late father’s death become darker, as he begins to believe that his father was murdered by Claudius so he could usurp the throne and marry Gertrude. Hamlet’s quest for revenge leads to his ultimate demise as his mental state deteriorates and he goes mad.

Hamlet enters through the doorway and asks his mother what is troubling her. Gertrude tells him he has offended his father, talking about Claudius. Hamlet tells her that she has offended his father, King Hamlet. Hamlet relentlessly tries to intimidate his mother, and she cries out that he is trying to kill her. Polonius yells from behind the curtain for help, and Hamlet draws his sword and stabs through the tapestry, killing Polonius leaving him dead on the floor. Hamlet accuses Gertrude of lusting after Claudius, and she begs Hamlet to stop, and to leave her alone. King Hamlet 's ghost reappears to Hamlet, but only he can see him. Hamlet thinks the ghost has come as his mother 's protector. The ghost tells Hamlet to be kinder to her. Gertrude is convinced now, more than ever, that her son is mad, but Hamlet tells her that it is not madness and he pleads for her to confess her guilt to him and to God. He even asks her to stop lusting after Claudius. Hamlet then drags Polonius’s body out of the room and moves
