Cyberbullying is a very big problem in today’s generation, because they have easy access too bully someone without no one knowing it was them, parents don’t supervise the time their teens spend on the computer or smart phone, and too many teens are committing suicide because of the cyberbullying they are receiving. The sources I will be using are all professionals and experts in the field of cyberbullying/bullying.
Cyberbullies have easy access to pick on someone without no one knowing it was them. If more teens come forward on the person/group bullying them there will be less bullies. Cyberbullying is a low culture, because a lot of these bullies are less well educated and have low self-esteem, and as we could see with this new era of media. Bullies have a lot of low culture TV shows, music, and magazines that feed on hurting others like gossip magazines, reality TV shows, and popular music that degrade people by calling them names. A good way to get attention on cyberbullying is by using the media, because the media could have a strong impact on a national and international level to show what teens that are bullied are going through, and if good journalists around the world were to focus more on how teens are getting hurt by cyberbullying they can really make a difference, because that is a career that your voice could be heard and make a difference. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that suicide was the third leading cause of death among adolescents in 2004” (Hinduja 2010). As a parent it breaks my heart to hear that so many kids rather die than to continue getting cyberbullied. I had a friend when I was in high school about 20 years ago, and he will always dress with the same two pants and 3 shirts he had. Some kids noticed and started making fun of him. He also had problems at home with his parents, and they were too busy fighting to pay any attention to the help their son needed, so one morning when I arrived to school I found out that he killed him-self. He jumped from a moving train in downtown New York City. That news hurt me so much because I knew that I could have said something to help him, or maybe the teachers could have done something besides ignore him, because they use to see him get bullied, but being bullied was not so important in those years.
