Ever since 1807 the world has forever been altered by one technological breakthrough. What invention is this you ask? The invention of the automobile. The effect of the automobile has been tremendous on one’s everyday life in the U.S. The American societydoes not just look at the car as a bunch of sheet metal but rather and extension of your personality by the speed of it, gas mileage and how impacting of a vehicle it is. The automobile is and incredible feat and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Americans have loved cars since there first introduction, some of the most popular sports involved racing high performance cars to their breaking points.One of the most popular is the 24 hour race at Le Mans. This race is held every June and all the American car manufacturers compete in a 24 hour road race against each other as well as other countries. This race first started in 1923 and originated in France (“Top 10 Sporting Events”). Another sport that Americans love to watch is Nascar. In nascar they take high performance race cars and race them on a track in the shape of an oval. These races are extremely long and hard on the car as well as the racer. Millions of people tune in each year to watch the races on TV. These cars are extremely high performance seeing speeds of 200 mph; these cars include some of the most technologically advanced motors. As technology with cars increase Americans felt the need to compete to see who has the fastest most durable race car as well as bragging rights (“Top 10 Sporting Events”). Millions also tune in to watch Nascar every year which is placed on U.S. race tracks in the shape of an oval.
