Summary

I read the article Culture and Adolescence Development by Chuansheng Chen and Susan Farruggia. This article is mainly about adolescence and how different things can affect the process. Adolescence is a change in a child to become an adult. The changes in the kids include the change in hormone levels, brain development, and body growth. Studies have shown that in the days before industrialization, some cultures would have big events or ceremonies to celebrate children becoming adults. Depending on the culture some kids don’t have a big transition because they grew up having responsibilities of an adult. Adolescence can cause high hormone levels and also a higher risk of bad or criminal behavior. Researchers such as Robert Klein believe …show more content…

For example a researcher named Bogin found that 20 year olds from Netherland are taller then 20 year olds from Africa. Africa is in poverty so they often sufferer from illness that prevent growth. It relates to the text because they both state the stages in growth and how different cultures affect the way people develop. Reflection I agree with the article’s main topic. I do think culture has a lot to do with how a person grows up. My mom was very sheltering, which is why I didn’t like to leave her side when I was younger. I also think what you eat and you’re resources have a big influence on development. If someone has more money they have more of an opportunity to get better resources.

No one in my family is creative or artistic expect for my sister and I. Growing up I wasn’t really into art. I didn’t know I wanted to be a photographer until my junior year in high school when I took photography classes. I realized I was decent and decided to go to school to become better at it and to also learn the history behind it.
Do you agree or disagree with the observations of the people you are interacting with? Explain why.
I do agree with what my mom says. I was very shy and it was hard for me to venture out and do my own thing. I wasn’t adventurous and I’m still not. I think it was because of the move. Doing new things scare me and I don’t know if I’m going to like the outcome of whatever I try. I think I still have room for improvement and room to grow up more and come more out of my shell. I do think I came a long way and I’m very happy with the person I have
