Introduction

The following writing consists of my reflexion on a course that has meant a lot for me. This course was a cultural diversity class that changed the perspective I saw the different people and cultures that live in the United States. As a future psychologist, the experience of the course of cultural diversity will be of substantial help. This is because this course helped me learn important lessons about socialization between multiple nationalities. Coming from a Caribbean Island, I always wanted to visit the United States, but there are not many different people or cultures where I am from. Furthemore, when I got to travel, I came to live in a city where different cultures live and work together. This was shocking for me,
For example, in New York City there are different heritage museums, supermarkets, and even clothing stores pertaining to a specific ethnic group. In addition, for children there are magnet schools that immerse the child to a new culture within the same city. Furtheremore, by socializing with different ethnic groups a person can even learn some of their language. Also, when a person opens their social life to diverse friends, they have friends in different parts of the world without having to travel in order to associate with them. Furthermore, knowing why some cultures behave in a certain way, helps reduce anxiety in a given moment, and allows people to understand each other. For example, occassionaly it may seem that people in a Dominican party are fighting, however, they might just be playing a table game. Therefore, if the Dominicans in the party understand that not all cultures are the same, and they have a guest of another country, the would do the effort of explaining the person, or moderately lower their voices. In addition, a psychologist also assets from these mentioned benefits. This is because getting to know different norms of behavior allows the therapist to understand why people behave in certain
