When Dionisio made his visits to the United States to give his scholarly lectures, he would utilize a mask in the form of an altered accent in attempt to be more expressive in front of his audience. He utilized this façade in order to mask the natural contempt he had for American cuisine and American culture, in general. It was Dionisio’s method of staying in control and appearing in a better light in front of his audience. Dionisio’s act of simply changing his accent may be his subtle attempt at combating the American perception of the stereotypical Mexican and doing his part in contributing to the chromosomal imperialism.
