Critical Thinking is the act of making logical and well-thought out reasoned judgments. This kind of thinking involves researching information to get reasonable conclusions, instead of just going off ‘what you heard’. Some skills related to critical thinking are analysis, clarification, evaluation, explanation, inference, interpretation, judgement, objectivity, problem solving, and reasoning. When you are a critical thinker, these skills are the steps you take in critically thinking. Taking these steps ensures that you find the most reasonable solution to the situation.
An example of critical thinking would be an attorney reviewing the evidence of a case and using critical thinking to devise a strategy to win a case or deciding if they should settle out of court. Another example of critical thinking would be a mechanic using critical thinking skills to evaluate what tools might be needed to complete a job. Both examples show that the critical thinker is researching the best way possible for them to solve a problem. Critically thinking helps you make the best educated answer based on the information you find by doing research on the topic. I use this thinking all the time when making decisions for my family because I want to make sure I’m making the best decision. Instead of just going off what other parents or relatives tell me, I research certain neighborhoods, school systems, and more to ensure that my kids are getting the best possible that I can get for them. If I just went off what others told me, I could possibly be making a bad decision for my family. What works for others, might not work for you, so it is important to do research of your own in order to find out the information yourself and make the best educated
