When the topic of creativity comes up, for most people, the conversation would normally involve art or music. But when I think of creativity, I think of the incredible world of medicine. In this research paper, I argue that creativity isn't just limited to the world of art and literature, but rather it is extremely important even in the medical field. Many advancements have been made in the medical field due to an individual’s discovery or innovative idea. I want to bring awareness to the importance of creativity in the medical field and how it plays a crucial role in the future of medicine. Innovations like the MRI or Gleevec, and the events leading up to the complete eradication of Smallpox, are just a handful of some of the most incredible life-saving medical breakthroughs in modern history. In the world of medicine, peoples creativity has and continues to save thousands of lives everyday, all, one creative idea at a time.
When I began my research, I figured, what better way to start digging in than to hear what a professional has to say. So I contacted Dr. Diana Port, Pharm.D., a Pharmacist in Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, New Jersey. I asked her to tell me the first thing that came to her mind when I told her the following two words: ‘Creativity’ and ‘Medicine’. Barely finishing my sentence, she answered me with one, Gleevec. She explained to me that in 2001, the FDA approved of a cancer-fighting drug, which would later be called Gleevec for the treatment of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). When the drug first came out, people were literally calling it names like “The Silver Bullet” or “The Miracle Drug” because of how amazing it was (Pray).
It all began when Dr. Brian J. Druker, a physician-scientist at the Oregon He...

... incredible ideas, who knows, you might not even be around to read this paper. The statistics speak for themselves, these creations have and continue to save literally millions of lives every year. Besides for saving lives, we can only imagine how the world would be without some of these incredible contributions.

The process by which Gleevec acts to inhibits bcr-abl in CML patients is by helping to reverse uncontrolled cell growth where Gleevec acts on a molecular target by a method that is more specific to cancer cells. It was shown that there is a substantial in vivo inhibition of the enzymatic activity of BCR-ABL at the 400 mg dose. which decreases phosphorylation of CRKL (a substrate of BCR-ABL). Since Gleevec was designed as an inhibitor of a specific receptor linked with CML, Gleevec also inhibits the Platelet-derived growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase and the c-kit tyrosine kinase.
The Myths of Innovation by Scott Berkun completely changed the way I view creativity. I noticed that we all have creativity inside of us; it is by means of expressing our deepest desires and ideas that we display our creativity to others. Burkun destroys myth after myth about innovation, which had me ready to start inventing my first million dollar idea! Berkun outlines ways to tap into innovation and pulls from history to guide us into the future. His simple and common prose gave me courage to tackle the tough problems. I now feel as though I have a firm grasp on what it means to be an effective creator.
Cancer in one way or another touches all of us, whether as a patient or through the diagnosis of the people you love around you. Millions of patients who are faced with cancer are depending on oncologists everywhere to cure cancer so others will not suffer like they had to. Optimistically, sooner rather than later this international problem will come to an end. There are a number of drug companies that have been coming out with cancer treatment drugs. “Oncology has been one of the hottest and most active therapeutic areas for drug development, drug makers may want to take note of a finding that new cancer drugs have proven far more difficult to gain approval than medicines for infectious and autoimmune diseases.” (nature.com) Unfortunately, these drugs cannot cure the cancer but it sure makes it a load easier o...
Annually, over half a million people die of cancer, but behind the scenes of the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) are several promising treatments that will probably never see the light of day. In 1994, a new drug called Angiostatin was created. This new treatment presumably could halt malignant tumors and reverse the harmful effects of cancer. Set up by the FDA, a clinical trial equipped with the use of the medicine in animals began soon after the discovery. The results of the trial showed that in three different types of cancer, Angiostatin ranged from 90-98% effective in ridding the cancer. Even with the astounding conclusions from the clinical trial, the FDA waited another six years to approve Angiostatin. In those six years, more than three million people diagnosed with cancer died, and part of those three million could have been saved with the use of Angiostatin, but the FDA dragged on the process of approving it (Falloon 3). Terminally ill patients need medication, even if not FDA approved, given that the risks and benefits are accurately portrayed.
Creativity could also be used to create a space for individuals with mental health issues to acknowledge, interpret and embrace the healing properties of creativity.
Creativity is commonly thought of something as something that people either possess, or they don’t. However, creativity can often be altered - past research showed that moderate levels of noise improve creativity; thus, suggesting that the environment can influence creativity (Mehta, Zhu, Cheema, 2013). Additional research suggests that “happy music” is related to divergent thinking – being able to create new perspectives and ideas (Ritter & Ferguson, 2017). Our study aims to study the effect between the environment, noise, and creative thinking.
Creativity is an essential attribute of human beings that is primarily developed in our childhood. Creativity is defined as the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas or things, especially in an artistic context. This artistic context can range anywhere from visual arts, to music, to dance. Although, the problem today is that this critical role of imagination, discovery, and creativity in a child 's education is not being fulfilled to its maximum. The cause of this expanding problem is that too many art and music programs, which promote creativity, are being taken out of school programs. Problems around this issue then begin to surface; children will soon not appreciate, or realize, creativities ' vital importance and how it shapes oneself. Therefore, curriculum in schools is limiting the growth and development of creativity in adolescents.
It is important to recognize the concept of creativity to familiarise the idea of what the neuroscientific can do or not in this field. Briefly, the consensus is that something creative is novel, useful (cooperative, appropriate), original (never seen before) and responding to a problem (intervention)(Pope, 2005)(Sawyer, 2012).
To understand the problem of cancer treatment, one has to know the history of cancer. It 's a disease that kills millions a year [sic] and a slew of hoped-for miracle treatments have gone nowhere (Begley “Could This Be the End of Cancer”). President Nixon declared war on cancer in 1971 (Begley “Curing Cancer”). This is the main reason why cancer treatment is such a huge issue today. Ever since then, scientists, doctors, researchers, and experts have been looking for “a cure” in cancer treatment. Since it is a major disease that people get as of 2010 569,490 people would have died from cancer just that year (Begley ‘Curing Cancer’). The 569,490 people dying each year changes depending on what treatment people have and how many are diagnosed each year. The rate of cancer for men and women dropped in just new cancer cases in November 2008 (Graham). Old cancer
Music and other art forms often go hand in hand. Creativity is not just a one-note deal or rather it is not confined to a singular aspect or form. Oftentimes it is interlaced into many forms, such as, music, writing, artwork, fashion and much more. Like a tree, creativity grows and extends out into infinite directions rooting itself in society. One such artist is Brandon Boyd. During the day he is a contemporary artist and by night he is a singer-songwriter for an internationally recognized rock band, Incubus. Some of their songs include; “Pardon Me” form the album entitled, When Incubus Attacks Vol. 1, and “Drive, “Dig,” and “Oil and Water,” three of my favorites, from the album entitled, Monuments and Melodies and “Sad Sick Little World” from the album entitled, A Crow Left of the Murder. In a 2009 interview with CNN, Brandon said it best, when asked, “So what does art fulfill in you that you don’t get out of music?”
In this article, researchers look at the assessment of creativity in job candidates. Creativity is essential for businesses to succeed. According to Amabile, Conti, Coon, Lazenby and Herron, (1996), consumer demands for innovation, reduction in product life cycles and fierce competition in the marketplace require job candidates to possess attributes of creativity. Amabile et al. (1996) defines creativity as “novel and useful ideas in any domain” (p. 1155). Examples of creativity are demonstrated by an individual’s ability to handle conflict resolution and utilize problem-solving skills. Furthermore, a creative individual is capable of being self-managed. Experience in working and leading teams is also considered characteristic of creativity (Malakate, Andriopoulos, & Gotsi, 2007).
Creative people’s openness and sensitivity often exposes them to suffering and pain, yet also to a great deal of enjoyment.
NACCCE definition of creativity: ‘Imaginative activity fashioned so as to produce outcomes that are both original and of value’(NACCCE, 1999:94).Creativity can motivate children to learn new information through a creative outlook. One of the biggest issues teachers have is between teaching required content and integrating creativity into the daily sessions. The National Curriculum and state standard often create boundaries towards the teacher’s ability to develop the lesson, as the intention of including creativity sometimes resorts in a teacher centred learning environment. The teacher’s role should be to generate lessons and create activities that encourage students to be more open to their creative side. This is vital as it exposes children with varying learning styles to different ways of learning.

Some creative ideas are amazing, simple and others complex. Creativity is a process, and it improves when a person continually work hard and come out with new ideas. Harris (1998)
