Creating A Diverse Classroom And Meet The Needs Of All My Different Students

In my future class, there are many ways I plan to create a diverse classroom and meet the needs of all my different students. I feel that it is important for everyone in my classroom to feel comfortable, welcomed and accepted. There are many ways I plan to do this to create a class community where everyone is respected and accepted. It is important to “learn all the student’s cultural heritage, communication styles, and learning preferences” (Manning, Bucher, 2013, P. 230).
In my classroom, on the first day, the assignments we will do will revolve around everyone getting to know each other. I will tell my students a little about me, and things that make me different. One of the assignments will include a map on the wall, with that map, we as a class will place a push pin where everyone was born, and places they have visited. With that map, over the course of the year, we will learn about all those particular places and the cool things about each place.
I believe it is also important for the literature in my classroom to be culturally diverse. My literature will reflect my students. I want everyone in my class to feel like they can pick up a book and see themselves in the pictures. I will have different topics of books in my classroom library, some of which will include different races, cultural differences, and gender differences.
Something all teachers should do regardless of diversity is to get to know all their students. Once I have gotten to know all my students I will do research, if needed, to find out more about each student’s specific heritage. If I had a student that is American Indian, I would do my research and find out the things that make them culturally diverse, their needs, strengths, and weaknesses.

I learned as a teacher you don’t have to pick one theorist or and stay with them, a teacher’s philosophy on classroom management can be a mixture of many different theorists all put together, the most important part is that the teacher picks their beliefs from research that is proven to work and believe in it.
