Creating a Better Future Through Globalization

The term “globalization” was known in the common vocabulary in the 1980. It is used to describe the increased movement of people, knowledge, goods, and money across national borders. It has led to increased interconnectedness among the world's populations, economically, politically, socially and culturally (T. L. Friedman 6-14) . Even though globalization often is thought of in economic terms, this process has many social and political implications as well. The globalization of today’s world through technology creates an intercultural phenomenon that has never been seen before. Not only are jobs and services more readily available to all people in the world, cultures are also meeting on all levels.

In today’s world, national economies are more open to one another than ever before. With international trade, much of what people consume is imported, and much of what nations produce is exported at an extraordinary level. All of this is due to the integration of the world, which is spreading the integration of market, technologies, and nations. People around the world are more connected to each other than ever before. Information and money are flowing quicker. Products produced in one part of a country are offered to the rest of the world. It is much easier for people to travel, communicate and do business internationally.

In the book, The Lexus and the Olive Tree, Thomas L. Friedman writes about how globalization came out. The section of the book titled “The New System” covers the life of a journalist who was beginning his assignment as the foreign affairs columnist for the New York Times. There are many positive aspects of the integration of nations, cultures, and technology across all geographical territories and beliefs. The wide contact with countries and cultures enable nations to understand each other better. The creation of new relationships among countries will lead to a reduction in cultural conflicts. Globalization is an answer to the disconnect that existed in the past and will influence our future in a more positive way. As a result, globalization in today’s world through technology has created a wonderful intercultural integration among countries in the world that civilizations have never seen before. With globalization we cannot move back, today and in the future, we will continue to integrate our lives with other lives around the world.
