Introduction Business Ethics are much more than the buzz word stories on late night news. The Corporate Social Responsibility of a company goes well beyond that. “Business Ethics are moral guidelines for the conduct of business based on notions of what is right, wrong and fair.” (Bellow, 2012). Individual backgrounds play a huge role in person by person code of conduct can vary from employee to employer. To help solve some grey areas in what is ethically correct, companies now make a code of conduct that is over everyone in the company. This code of responsibility helps employees have better understanding of what is required of each and every one of them. “Corporate Social Responsibility is a business philosophy which stresses the need for firms to behave as good corporate citizens, not merely obeying the law but conducting their production and marketing activities in a manner which avoids causing environmental pollution,” (, 2013). Most companies are improving in this direction as managers and employers are becoming more socially and ethically responsible. Leading by example is the absolute best way to lead and change the corporate culture. This shows the employees that the very best of each person is expected from the very top of management, all the way down to the bottom. Many businesses are accomplishing this through implementing a code of conduct for their employees. A code of conduct is, “a written set of guidelines issued by an organization to its works and management to help them conduct their actions on accordance with its primary values and ethical standards,” (IJCHM, 2012). “Businesses who conduct themselves in an ethical manner pass their values, morals and beliefs down to the employees and customers. Additionally, leaders can set an excellent example by scrupulously adhering to these standards. Finally, nonprofits have a burden of maintaining a high level of social responsibility in the form of sustainability and a high regard for public health and safety. The obligation of social responsibility should be utilized in every decision-making process within the organization. Considering how each decision affects others should be a crucial component for leaders. Nonprofit organizations can make a significant impact on social needs but must do so effectively and responsibly. These tools of ethical behavior and appropriate social responsibility will ultimately contribute to overall organizational effectiveness
