Recommended: The relationship between religion and science

The conflict between science and religion has been seen over the years as a major conflict. Through the movie Contact directed by Robert Zemeckis I will explore more in details how the movie resolves the age-old conflict between science and religion through the hero myth . ¬¬The movie contact is all about finding where the human race first started as well as their first confrontation with the extraterrests.The main character in the movie, Ellie, we understand that she is on a journey for a meaning in her own life. In the movie she says that "For as long as I can remember, I've been searching for some reason why we're here, what we're doing here, who are we? If this is the chance to find that even a little part of that answer i don’t know i think its worth a human life’’ .

Through the understanding of the conflict between science and religion we can observe that they are still some similarities present in both of them. Both science and religion hold to the importance of testing your idea as a departure for starting an idea . Theology or mythology and science are understood through critical thinking . Both authorities support their view, and both rarely question the authorities unless strong evidence point of the contrary of accepted ideas . Thus lets not forget the differences that they have which creates the conflict between them. Scientific testing is an exercise while praying that is use of good sense are two valid level of observation of an idea . Conjecture of theories play a far more important role in science than in theology for mythology. While religion reuses its myths, science generally disregards them when proven untrue. ...god created the universe but decided to never give proof of his existence or he simply doesn’t exist at all and we created him so we wouldn’t have to feel so small and alone ”. While science on the other hand is trying to find a simple explanations to why and how the universe was created.

There is also a conflict between science and religion but it is all forgotten when they all get together at one place in order to find the truth about one and single thing, The first confrontation between the extraterrests and the human race, as human (religious or not) we all are searching for an answer to where we come from, why we’re here and what we are doing here.

The conflict between science and religion is clearly seen in the movie but even though they work best when they work with one another, both believe that there is something bigger than us somewhere in the universe
