Construction in the USA
Overview of industry
The Construction industry in the US has faced some interesting changes throughout its progression. From economic instability during the housing market crash to amazing technological advances to reduce the need for construction workers and therefore the cost associated with newly built properties in the real estate market. Beginning with the first tools ancient man used to carve their niche in the soon to be global expansion of arguably one of the oldest trades in history, construction has a rich history of trial and error, analysis and engineering that covers a very necessary skill that directly affects everyone who seeks and finds shelter, a place to work or any aspect of public works and many modern comforts. The story of construction began in the Neolithic era, or new stone age, when huts were built out of available materials, bone, antler, hide, stone, wood, grasses, animal fibers, and the use of water (Wikipedia). This was an age of true self sufficiency as there were no corporate or government boundaries, as methods and materials developed through the Copper, Bronze, and Iron ages, new concepts arose as to what construction should entail. By the time the Egyptian, Greek, and Roman empires were in their respective primes, technologies such as mortar, blocks cutting and forming, and aqueducts began opening the door for more innovative options. As these techniques were refined, new technologies, new methods arose, the story of construction is the story of history. (Wikipedia)

Threats to the industry include internet bidding to drive down profits, as well as the general well-being of the economy in the county which directly affects the home buying market. (Burman).
All of the instability and dynamic nature of the construction field creates a turmoil some can’t handle. Especially the overwhelmingly masculine nature of those who do the labor, there is a stigmata against some who don’t have the strength or willpower to make it through an extended day of creating wonderful places for people to exist. So many career opportunities are created by this industry that there are plenty of places for anyone to go, even to a jobsite if so inclined. Overall, it is an excellent industry to practice both strength training and design, business and international relations, and the ultimate feeling that you have just built a house for someone to live in!
