Portland is a beautiful town from the moment I have been living here. I came to America in 2007 in the middle of winter. Weather was cold as usual for a winter period. Rain and snow were regular and reminded me of the weather in my home country. My aunt, with whom I lived when I first came here, told me how this town will be beautiful in the spring. “Why?” I asked her. “Many trees, bushes and flowers are growing here. In Ukraine you lived in the town where there were many parks, but now you live in the town which is built in one huge park. This area doesn’t have drought because of a lot of rain. It is the main reason why our city is evergreen. Rain is the liquid that make nature very beautiful, but if the rain cycle will change, the status of evergreen place will be changed also.” I agreed with her. I continue to live in this nice city and my life continued also. My children went to schools, my husband went to work, but I faced the biggest problem that immigrants name the #1 problem. I didn’t know English. I decided to study the language in college. After that I wanted to work in an elementary school as a teacher because in Ukraine I was a kindergarten teacher. This job is familiar to me and I didn’t think that studying will be difficult for me. I am not a silly person, have an associate degree, like to study and communicate with people. I thought my knowledge and job experience is extensive to be a wisdom student and successful worker in this country. I thought that I know a lot of information and am a modern person. After I went to college, I realized that only constant learning is the basis of the broad knowledge.

Constant learning helps a person keep his brain in the work position. Every day the brain needs to calculate, memorize new information, and so on. Doctors say that the brain’s cells become particularly dead without studying. It is not good news, isn’t it? Do you know who would like to be an old person by body and brain? A person can’t stop the aging process of his body, but he can stop the aging process of his brain. For example, when I am in college among young people, I forget about my age, full of energy and knowledge. I feel myself a young person like hundred other students are.
Despite of age, a person who is studying is like an evergreen town: full of knowledge, life, and wisdom forever.
Learning is one of the things that help us survive. Darwin taught us that learning is the survival mechanism that we use to survive in our ever-changing environments. Our brains are designed to learn. They are plastic, meaning they can adapt, change and grow. In our brains there are neurotransmitters, and neurotrophins. They both have a role in turning different circuits on off, and getting different signals to different parts of our bodies. Some neurotrophins are called factory, and one of those is BDNF, or brain-derived neurotrophic factor. This chemical has been called, fertilizer for neurons. Exercise has been shown to increase BDNF leve...
Entering the Courtyard Residence I had some presumptions of what we would experience with the older generations. As a result of my own experiences being part of a family composed of two different ethnic groups (white and Mexican), I have experienced many awkward moments with the older generations on my Father's side of the family who slip with racist remarks. Because of this, I had a hunch that we might encounter these moments at the Courtyard residence as well. That being said, it became an interest of mine to research the different ethnic groups who have migrated to Portland and find out what their perception of this city is. Although we may be called the most liberal and accepting city in the United States, I have often felt that this is not so in terms of being socially accepting as much as environmentally accepting.
She also introducing new urban building standards. This this article she talks about, the idea some people have of tearing it down and rebuilding. She also talks about ideas people have about some parts of towns. In Boston, she talks about the area of North End, and the change that it was over gone. During her second visit to this area, she discovered that it had changed. She talked to other about it, although the statistic were higher than the city, the people still saw it as a slum. They felt that they needed to tear it down in order to build something better. This leads to the conclusion that the urban planners to do understand that the people of the city need. They have ideas that were developed years ago that they are still using. These ideas do not take account what the people want. The author also introducing new ideas of a perfect city to live in and what it would look like. The idea of a garden city was introduced. This city would be built around a park. Although the new ideas sounded great they could not be put into place today. The idea of a Garden City is something that sounds nice, but it is not possible in society today. Today a city should reflect economic status, and in order to achieve this the city should be big, and convey an image of power. A city that has aspects of nature in it would not convey that image. That upkeep of a city of that kind would also be difficult. The do understand the author's point of view. The planners often times do not take into account the desires of the people. The town that I grow up in want to become more urbanized. In order to do this, they are building a large shopping center. This shopping center is located in the canyon rim. This canyon rim has been important the people for many years. We come to the area to walk, what bass jumpers, and enjoy the scenic views. This new shopping center took away this area. Many of the people
People learn new things every day. My grandmother would say “I just received a new wrinkle in my brain!” Maybe, this is not true, but it is true that we learn new things even as we grow older. There are many techniques to learning a new skill. “Howard Gardner 's theory of Multiple Intelligences utilizes aspects of cognitive and developmental psychology, anthropology, and sociology to explain the human intellect” (Zhou 77). Gardner introduced nine different intelligences. Gardner believed that humans possess each of the nine intelligences, even though some are stronger or weaker than others. He also believed that each person had their own individual intelligence profile. We took a multiple intelligence test to see our own strengths and weaknesses

The world that still gave him so much joy and hope in the middle of his chaotic life. When reading literature, I reenact what is being read and play it in my mind. So as I was reading Stoner I would reenact the parts where he was either reflecting on his teaching or reading literature that caused him to be consumed. Stoner was focused on learning from his books and he treated reading with urgency, thinking that his life was too short so he desired to read as much as possible. “He realized the little time he had in life to read so much, to learn what he had to know.” (Williams 26), when reading that I realized the reality of what he meant and it was very inspiring. He willingly wanted to learn and know more about his studies. A sense of urgency came upon him and that made him question the amount of time he would have to read all he had. His experience in that moment gave me an epiphany because it was very true. Another day is never promised because anything could happen. Why am I not treating each day in college as if it were my last day to learn? It is honestly a privilege to be able to advance from post-secondary education to higher education. Higher education is nothing compared to any other because of the amount of knowledge that can be learned that no student has known until they have gone to college. College is where unknown knowledge can be found. College is where knowledge is given to
In order to avoid the physical effects of aging, it is suggested that individuals engage in frequent exercise. Doing so will enhance muscular and cardiac ability, and will reduce one’s risk of various forms of heart disease and obesity (Myers & DeWall, 2016). Due to an increase in oxygen flow, exercise may also stimulate neurogenesis (Myers & Dewall, 2016), a process that promotes growth in hippocampal nerve cells that may result in an improved ability to retain memory. In relation to physical exercise, it is also suggested that adults in middle or late adulthood participate in “brain training” exercises, which have shown to make small improvements in one’s depreciating cognitive development. As a result of the brain’s neural plasticity, such brain exercises have the potential to enhance an individual’s ability to complete control tasks, while other research indicates that it can result in an overall sharpness of the mind (Myers & DeWall, 2016). Despite the onset of an aging mind and body that is characteristic of adulthood, exercise of all forms can induce positive outcomes for older individuals in both their physical and cognitive
There are a number of benefits to be found from thinking about ageing as a lifelong process and not just one that affects older people. This essay will define some of these benefits whilst backing up this reasoning with reference to the K118 material. It will then explain briefly which experiences I have had personally which have led me to responding to the question in this manner.

The human brain is the most complex organ in the known universe. It controls everything in the human body and has produced marvelous ingenuity. The basic size, shape, and location of the human brain does not vary much from person to person. But the way in which humans use their brain varies greatly. Learning is defined as “the act or process of acquiring knowledge or skill” or “the modification of behavior through practice, training, or experience” (Dictionary.com, Year?). The different sections of the brain can impact how and individual will learn and in what manner they will be most comfortable learning.

The definition of Lifelong Learning in any economy has a direct correlation with the social development of the society in general. In contemporary society, the value and its focus is on the considerations of what is and should be the focus of successful living as an individual throughout the entire lifespan. In today’s context, living and learning now go hand-in-hand as the knowledge required of living and working intensifies, and continuing education, training, and professional development becomes an everyday aspect of an adult
“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school” this quote by Albert Einstein states the importance of education, its influence on our daily lives and its power over all other devices. My teacher once asked me what’s easier, to remember or to forget? I answered confidently “to forget” but he made me realize I was wrong, I can never forget the alphabet “a” for example even if I try erasing it from my memory; moral of the story is that education will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Lifelong learning is the process of gaining knowledge based on an individual’s interest and developing skills throughout the life to improve their life irrespective of traditional educational schooling activities. This long term process influences an individual’s personal development and improves their thinking and thought process thus recreating themselves in a new experience of the positiveness. These learning’s can be of different types ranging from the home education, cultural learning, personal learning, spiritual learning, learning to keep up to date with technologies and local medical sciences education etc. Learning through experiences in life helps an individual to visualize the purpose of life from a new prospective that inspires them to be self-contended.
The first reason why people should have the humility is the limitless of knowledge. According to Christensen (2010), teenagers who graduated from famous universities of the
