The pursuit of “Dao” is the common object of both Confucianism and Taoism with the ideal of ‘all under heaven is equal’ (Peterman, n.d.), and they both expected to establish a healthy political system which can protect people 's rights. The similarities can be explained from values expression and common pursuit.
In terms of ideas, Confucianism and Taoism both agree that heaven and human being are united, which means human being born from nature and depend on nature (Tang, n.d.). The two have a close connection with each other, thus, people should protect natural environment and resources instead of destroy its harmony. In essence, the meaning of “Dao” in Confucianism is benevolence and righteousness (Confucius, & Legge, 2010). Confucius initiated the spirit of sacrifice life for justice and proposed to manage state affairs based on ‘benevolence, righteousness and filial obedience’ (Wang, 2011, pp.101).
