The Middle East has historically rebuked Western influence during their process of establishing independence. When Britain and France left the Middle East after World War II, the region saw an unprecedented opportunity to establish independent and self-sufficient states free from the Western influence they had felt for hundreds of years. In an attempt to promote nationalistic independence, the states of the region immediately formed the League of Arab States in 1945. The League recognized and promoted the autonomy of its members and collaborated in regional opposition against the West until 1948 when Israel declared independence. Israel represented then and now an intrusive Western presence in the Arab world. The ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict typifies this cultural antagonism. The Cold War refocused attention to the Middle East as a site of economic and strategic importance for both sides, yet the two hegemons of the Cold War now needed to recognize the sovereignty of the Middle Eastern states. With their statehood and power cemented, the Middle Easte...
The Middle East has since time immemorial been on the global scope because of its explosive disposition. The Arab Israeli conflict has not been an exception as it has stood out to be one of the major endless conflicts not only in the region but also in the world. Its impact continues to be felt all over the world while a satisfying solution still remains intangible. A lot has also been said and written on the conflict, both factual and fallacious with some allegations being obviously evocative. All these allegations offer an array of disparate views on the conflict. This essay presents an overview of some of the major literature on the controversial conflict by offering precise and clear insights into the cause, nature, evolution and future of the Israel Arab conflict.
To say the cause of political friction in the Middle East is due to religious differences is too simplistic as well as unduly inflammatory. Other things come into play, such as protection of US interests involving energy production, and even control of the water supply by Israel and its neighboring countries. However, to say the violence has nothing to do with religious differences denies the past 4,000 years of history.

The performative aspect of language conceptualised by Austin half a century ago, enables a more nuanced approach to the statement ‘The Middle East is an Invention’ than a simple examination whether it is true or false. It implies the necessity of an examination that takes into consideration its possible meanings and their historical origins. Moreover, such an action has its political implications. These can become visible if such an argument is considered in contrast to its historical counterpart that presupposes that the term ‘Middle East’ contains an essence of some sort and as such it can be definitely analysed to its components. Comprehended in that manner, the claim that the Middle East is a fictitious artefact is first and foremost a critique.
The main reason given for the success of religious actors in conflict resolution is their ability to gain trust and act as "honest brokers" between the groups involved. The Western powers cannot afford to ignore the importance of religion around the world nor can they afford to let the rare skills of relationship building brought by religious actors to go to waste. Religious groups have the desire and key qualities of trust building, patience, and unbiased involvement necessary to facilitate reconciliation and build peace around the world. These attributes are vital to reconciliation and mediation in a world where deception and diplomacy often come hand in hand.
... people are the factors in the political conflict over the holy land. During the Crusades, the popes were politicians and wanted more land to control, and the same is happening today in the holy land. Fighting over the holy land will be a continuous war, because one religion will never be satisfied over the amount they control.
At its core, religion and history are intrinsically intertwined. Religion is often humanity’s driving force while history is the record of what they do with it. However, different belief systems are a diverse as the people who believe them. When these different religions come into contact with each other, there’s bound to be conflict. Prominent examples of these conflicts are causing warfare, division within a single belief system, and societal issues. Religion has been a major dividing force throughout history and it still is today.
The article, “Why Is There So Much Conflict in the Middle East?” written by Mirjam E. Sørli et. al corresponds a great deal with the text Politics and Change in the Middle East as far as the reasons for conflict in the Middle East. Sørli et. al disputes the idea of “Middle East exceptionalism,” which says that there is something different about Middle Easterners that make them prone to violence and conflict (142). Sørli et. al says this is not true, but rather there are very simple reasons as to why there has been conflict in the Middle East. As stated, the lack of regional natural resources such as water, oil, and arable la...
The primary factor for the conflict between the two religious groups is due to the lack of trust: People from one sect do not trust the other side to be fair if they were in power, and vice versa.
The article chosen for this review is by Raymond G. Helmick titled Does Religion Fuel or Heat in Conflicts?. The article discussed how religion does in fact play a role of some type within most all notable conflicts throughout history and continues through into today’s conflicts. The article talks about how religion faith is in itself “an all-encompassing outlook on life, on the world and its meaning” (Helmick, Peterson, 2001, p. 81). Many of the world’s wars and violent acts against others can be attributed to the different religious beliefs. When the topic of religion is brought up in any type of discussion, one must understand that it is viewed in many different ways and that it can at times fuel the fire when for the most part its aim
