Rainbow Development Conflict can happen at any time, any, place, and under any circumstances. However what is conflict? According to Merriam-Webster’s (2015) definition, conflict is the struggle for power, or a strong disagreement between people, groups…that result in… angry arguments, and it is because of differences that prevents agreement. This is exactly what is happening in the high mountains of Colorado, where neighbors are facing problems with their water supply that comes from a local well. This well in question has repeatedly been tested and has shown positive signs of pollution, which forces the community to treat their water, either by boiling or buying water. As a result of the conflict, each faction could be clearly distinguished as competitive, integrative, and transformative. How can these three divided faction come to a negotiation table and be able find resolution? Applying each of these approaches, one can distinguish in which manner the conflict resolution would be determined. Furthermore, it can also help address the concerns arises by conflict, address relationships between neighbors, and find a solution to the conflict. Additionally, these groups can also find communicative concerns that can help, rather than destroy their relationship. There seem to be an assumption that the no one really matters, but their outcome, which is a division of limited resources. According to Hocker and Wilmot (2014) a distributive bargainer is not concerned with future relationships, and is focused on maximizing gain, and minimizing loss (p 256). This clearly demonstrates how the group feels, and they are convinced they have set their expectation clearly for the other groups to follow without question. All these expectation are for one goal, to get the water to the groups. This lack of cooperation that has been demonstrated further reinforces the notion that the group’s negotiation style will damage the relationships between the other factions, and ultimately the likelihood of an agreement will dissipate as tension continue to
