Computer Science is a popular major with one of the brightest spots in the employments of current society as the world is becoming more and more advanced. People who graduate with a computer science degree are considered computer scientist; Computer scientists use technologies like computers, smart phones, and basic knowledge and reasoning to solve whatever problems they encounter. Computer Science Engineers write software programs that allow machines to do new things or improve tasks more efficiently; programs like Facebook, Twitter, and mobile messaging software have improved many people’s lives with easier and simpler ways of communication. An interview with Dr. Louis, a computer science and engineering professor with a Ph. D. who is currently teaching while researching at the University of Nevada, Reno, answered a few questions that a computer science major or other under graduated students might be interested in. When Dr. Louis was in college, his goal was to become a software engineer, a major that sparked his interest. Dr. Louis said “Computers are driving all kind of technologies” (interview), like airplanes, Global Positioning System, Unmanned aerial vehicles, motor engines, even including itself. “A person that acquired a computer science degree can do just about anything” (interview), work in any industry because every industry today use computers one way or the other. Also “this major is very international” (interview), a person can stay home while working for companies across seas. Not only that “this major is exceedingly universal” (interview), people who studies computer science are also have higher chance in getting a field related job ‘fresh out of college’ compares to other majors. Operating system is the most important program that runs on a computer. Every general-purpose computer must have an operating system to run other programs. Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling devices such as disk drives and printers. For large systems, the operating system has even greater responsibilities and powers. Computer servers for example, it makes sure that different programs and users running at the same time do not interfere with each other. The operating system is also responsible for security, ensuring that unauthorized users do not access the system.
