Living in a modern society, technology continues to advance in ways that many would think impossible many years ago. Technology continues to aid the human race in many ways; such as making communication possible across continents within seconds, helping develop new medicines for previously incurable diseases, and completely tasks that would take hours to do by hand. However, technology does not just develop on its own as an intelligent being, but it continues to be molded by those that work in the field of computer science, computer engineering, and computer programming. Each level of the computerized fields has its own field of work, and each aids technology advancement in its own way. Computer programmers train to correctly perform their duties, understand the tools and language, and sharpen their personal qualities. Becoming a computer programmer is not an easy task and takes eons to perfect, as the code is forever changing to adapt to our needs.
Every user has to get started somewhere when they first attempt computer programming. The first experiences are best learned by attempting simple web scripts on your own, while gradually working toward harder tasks (Taylor, 24). If attempting the start learning computer programming while still in school, it is advised to take as many computer education classes as physically possible. It is also advised to partake in classes in mathematics, science, and schematic drawing classes to prepare for the field (Computer Programmers). As I opened the front door of the IBM Building, my next chapter in life began. My eyes widen as I observed my teacher writing code on the smartboard. Uneasiness and fear rushed down my spine. I was the only person among fourteen girls without prior knowledge of coding. I spent eight hours in a confined room learning how to code. My computer science teacher appointed assignments in HTML and Python.
“Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr and “How Computers Change the Way We Think” by Sherry Turkle are two articles that explore how technology influences our daily lives. “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” discusses the effects of the internet in our society, how it is robbing us of our deep thoughts, memories and our ability to read books. Carr also talks about how the internet has become our primary source of getting information. The writer also discusses about how he’s having difficulty focusing on reading. “How Computers Change the Way We Think” is talking about how people don’t use their brains full potential capacity to solve problems. Instead, we depend on technology to do that for us.
Computers and mobile devices have become an integral part of today’s society. Therefore, many people use them in schools, homes, and the work place. It has become imperative to know the basic computer skills to survive. College students acquire basic computer skills that will equip them with the knowledge to operate a computer, such as sending emails, conducting internet research, creating a word document and creating presentations. Students at Chattahoochee Technical College are required to have basic computer skills to accomplish tasks.
As our world expands through the growing abilities and applications of computers in our everyday lives, it seems that the role of the computer has been reversed. Before we knew that the computer only understood what we programmed it to understand; however, now the majority of our society is learning more from computers than they are able to input into it. Dumm (1986 p.69)
Imagine having a computer without running software. Computers would be slightly pointless without programs to run it. There would be no directions in the computer to tell it how to run, where to run, and what to do. A computer would have the ability to turn on, but a blank screen would be the only thing to appear on a monitor. I am sure that the question of "Who creates these programs?" has run through many minds in the past. These programs aid you in typing papers, connect you to the Internet, send information to other computers, or provide an interface for games that help to occupy your time. Computer programmers are the individuals that create and work with these programs. On a broad scale, computer programmers write the programs, test the programs, and then maintain the programs that millions of people use daily (Computer Programming 243-249). The every day duties of a computer programmer include investigating work requests from system analysts, understanding the problem and the desired resolution, choosing an appropriate approach, and planning an outcome that will tell the mechanism what to do to produce the desired results. Programmers must be experienced in high levels of mathematics, computer science, and programming languages. A programmer must also have experience with critical thinking, reading comprehension, and deductive reasoning. Programmers need to master these subjects, since they write in a language different from everyday English or French.
As a child, I always bombarded my parents with the ever-persistent question of “why?” Naturally, after my parents bought our first computer, I began to wonder how computers worked. I saw the computer as a magic box that drew upon the unknown forces of another dimension to display funny cat videos on a mini TV. Neither of my parents studied computers and nobody in my household knew how to use Google, so I was left wondering. On a fateful trip to the library, I spotted a thick intimidating “PHP for Dummies” book written for anyone but a curious ten year old. When I finally grasped the basic lingo (HTML, SQL, PHP, and other strange permutations of capital letters), I was on my way to becoming a computer programmer.
Growing up in the late 90’s, I witnessed computers revolutionize India – we had cellphones and personal computers and the internet transforming our lives - and like most other kids, I was fascinated by them. It wasn’t until I took course on QBasic in 8th grade, however, that I really took a liking to computer programming. The idea of computer ‘languages’ seemed almost magical to me. Over the years, that proclivity for programming grew into a passion and led me to take more programming electives in higher grades. I also took the initiative to set up a student-run Computer Club in my high school and host our first annual Computer Symposium. My upbringing in Delhi also made me aware of the gaping inequalities of wealth distribution in our society and as my interest in Computer Science deepened, it only reinforced my belief that lean-technologies can help governments of developing countries in bringing their policies to the altar of execution more efficiently.
Computers are changing the world as we know it, and they offer an exciting new way of working. The news represented a complete turnaround for the corporate giant. Microsoft Chairperson, Bill Gates publicly announced his company's new connection to the Internet. The announcement rang through the nation. Gates has consistently ignored the Internet in favor of desktop computing. So, with Microsoft's approval, computers kicked into even higher gear . The pace of innovation continues to astonish even those involved from the start. If one wants to find enthusiasm, intellect, hard work, and imagination; then computers is the place to be .

The earliest existence of the computer dates back to the first century, but the electronic computer has only been around for over a half-century. Throughout the last 40 years computers have changed drastically. They have greatly impacted the American lifestyle. A computer can be found in nearly every business and one out of every two households (Hall, 156). Our Society relies critically on computers for almost all of their daily operations and processes.
