Assessment Reflection In The Special Education Graduate Program

The completion of the Assessment Module began with selecting a high school student to study for the module. Since I am currently a general education classroom teacher, I wanted to select a student that first meet the criteria for the assignment, and two would be easily accessible during the school day. After reviewing the criteria for the assignment, I selected a student that is currently in the 7th grade. Once I decided on the student, I contacted the family to discuss the project and receive permission to work with the student. Once I was able to gain access to the student’s information, I began studying the testing reports and evaluations. The next step in the completion of the module was to create the assessment report. The assessment report included the student’s background information, identifying the data, and giving a diagnostic summary of the tests administered to the student. Additionally, the diagnostic summary included a conclusion or summary of findings and instructional techniques and strategy recommendations for the student. Completing the Assessment Module allows for candidates to utilize skills and information gained in the process of completing the previous graduate courses. In addition, the Assessment Module also allows for students to participate in an in-depth study of a special needs child, including assessing formal testing information and reports. As a general education teacher for seventeen years, I have had plenty of experience implementing the modifications and accommodations associated with students diagnosed with special needs. However, I have not had many opportunities that I have allowed for me study a student’s formal testing information and data. Reviewing and understanding formal testing information, as well as, making decision based on this information is a crucial aspect of being an effective special education professional. Additionally, completing the assessment module, and incorporating a special needs student in my current classroom, allowed for me to utilize the assignment in a very practical and rewarding
