Microsoft
I have been to this site fairly recently, and it has been updated since then. It is pretty colorful, and is easy to navigate. All of the different Products and Downloads are listed on the sidebar of the page. This reflects the company well, because they are a computer company, so I would hope that their website would be the best that I went to. And it was. There was a lot on the website but it was very organized. At the bottom there is a link to contact them, and even a link for Journalists. This page had a lot of product news and consumer news. This was a great site.
World Health Organization
The WHO website could have been a little more organized, but it was fairly easy to navigate. The picture on the home page made you very sympathetic to the cause. It also made you want to learn more. There were links for 6 different languages, and that was easy to find. There was also a search tool at the bottom just in case something was hard to find. It was hard to find a Contact Us link. I liked that the home page had news releases and other featured sites involving World health.
Intel
The Intel site was very animated and 3-D looking. While it wasn’t as organized as Microsoft, it was still easy to navigate. It had resources for businesses and personal separate, and also news was readily available. The also had a Site Map link at the bottom, which was very organized, just not as colorful. There was a lot of advertising on their home page, which was a great idea. There is a Contact Us and Press Room link at the very top of the page, which is great for consumers and journalists.
Apple
The Apple/Mac website was a little cluttered, but still easy to look around. They have very colorful “hip” looking pages, that appeal to younger people. You had to log in for some stuff, but most things were accessible. It was hard to find a Contact Us, or Journalist link. They focused a lot on the store and selling accessories and iPods. (I can imagine this is more during the Christmas season) This website is updated a lot, because I visit it frequently. It looks like a lot of effort is put into this site, and it is very aesthetically pleasing.
Dell
Dell went a step further in separating information .
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to make nitroglycerin from house-hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a manner that whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from that. In this sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this talk of togetherness is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color coordination, if color is used, text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just plain and simple design of the page. For example, it wouldn't be all that appealing to the eyeball if a page being viewed had all the text jumbled up in a corner, so small your eyes were bleeding by the time you figured out that it wasn't even worth the trouble. Darn. It's important to rememeber, especially these days, that what you read is as important as how it looks. Have you ever tried reading an interview in a Raygun magazine? Kinda hard, right? Design totally for its own sake is nice, as art that is, and admittedly it looks cool. However, it's two in the morning and you're standing in line at the corner 7-11 trying to pay for your 40 ounce bottle of Kool-Aid, and you happen to see that your favorite MTV Pearl Crap-clone band is on the cover of this hip magazine and you go to read it, but you can't. It's not because to you failed elementary school three times in two years, but because the maestro in charge decided to get fancy with it and thought it'd be cool if he hid the text under a black box or likewise photograph. I like to loo...
The company has a very good information systems support in being able to make strategic and routine decisions. They research and look into every available option prior to committing to purchasing or contracting with the companies in making sure that they are able to make the best quality product at the lowest costs.
...market share, Intel progressively reduced licensee and developed process and manufacturing infrastructure to manufacture chips by itself. Thus, it contained the “profit pool” in its value chain. Thereafter, successful tie-ups with ‘horizontal’ complementors like Compaq 7 Microsoft led to wrecking of IBM’s hegemony. With established leadership in microprocessor industry, Intel strategically started ‘Intel Inside’ and ‘Runs better on Pentium processor’ programs to improve brand recognition. As more and more end-customers identified Intel and microprocessor as the most important component in a PC, Intel could now command higher power and bargaining position with OEM and software manufacturers. This ensures demand-side control.
There are five different criteria that should always be met when it comes to evaluating a website. These criteria’s include accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage (“Criteria Used in Evaluating Web Resources”, 2014). Accuracy is deciphering who is hosting the website, if the website has stated the purpose and audience, and if the information on the site is reliable. A good way to check if the information can be trusted is to compare the facts found on the website with other information and facts found from other internet or print sources. Authority is verifying that the author of the website is real, because if the author is real then the information can usually be trusted as well (“Criteria Used in Evaluating Web Resources”, 2014). To check the authority of a site, the page should be examined for information about the author, note if anyone else has contributed to the website, check for contact information, and see if the author has created other websites with factual information. It is a good sign if there is contact information for the author, because it means someone is taking credit for the information on the page (“Criteria Used in Evaluating Web Resources”, 2014). If someone is taking credit, there is a better chance that the information can be trusted because the author would not want a bad reputation and to be held accountable for sharing false information. The objectivity of a website is deciding if the website is trying to sway the reader’s opinion, and if it is biased. If the advertisements on the site are being supplied by the author of the site, then there is a good chance the page is biased. There should be no bias or opinion located on a site that is supposed to supply factual information (“Criter...
Intel is a multinational semiconductor chip maker corporation with the main headquarters located in Santa Clara, California. Founded on July 18, 1968, they are the world’s largest and highest valued semiconductor chip manufacturer (based on the company’s income) and are also the inventor of the x86 series processor2. It was founded by two men, Gordon E. Moore and Robert Noyce; the duo came from the Fairchild Semiconductor company. Intel’s first product after founding was the 3101 Schottky TTL bipolar 64-bit static random-access memory which was nearly twice as fast as earlier iterations by Fairchild and other competing companies. In the very same year, 1969, Intel also manufactured the 3301 Schottky bipolar 1024-bit read-only memory and the first publicly available metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor silicon gate SRAM chip, which was the 256-bit 1101.
The company started April 1, 1976 with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Charismatic Jobs persuaded Wozniak to build computers for resale that Wozniak originally designed as a hobby for personal use. To purchase the first computer components, Jobs’ sold his VW mini-bus and Wozniak had to part with his “beloved” HP calculator. (TAM) Apple I was resold by a local store called the “Byte Shop” for $666.66. Apple was incorporated on January 3, 1977. December of 1979 in exchange for company stock XEROX invited Jobs and several Apple employees to see the “Alto Computer” which featured a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI allows for a user to navigate his/her computer using a mouse and click on objects as opposed to pressing a designated key. Jobs quotes saying that he was “instantly convinced” that all future computers would have a GUI, and set off to create an “insanely great” computer.
Apple has always provided a complete computing experience. From the very beginning Apple sold the hardware, operating system and the basic applications one would need.
The website that has been chosen to be evaluated by me is IKEA’s website. IKEA website is actually one of the profit-making website. The website enables people to choose for their items and make a list before they make a real purchase at the real IKEA store. Basically, IKEA store is a store that provides home furnishing products such as sofas, beds, kitchen stuff, toiletries and some others. And even more, they had a showroom to inspire people to decorate their own house. So, in the website, there is also a preview of the showroom as it will helps for those that did not get a chance to go to the IKEA store.
Apple’s brand name enhances brand recall and is memorable because of its simplicity and it has a higher transferability than other brands because it’s name is not a made up word that would be hard to translate into other languages. Apple.com has good memorability because the website shares the brand name and comes up right away when you search. Likability is also strong the website has a modern appearance and is easy to navigate. The Apple logo is also a major point in the brand because of its memorability, as soon as you see the apple you know what brand of product it is. The logo has been redesigned over the years from the multicolor apple to the solid colored one that is used today. Even though the
This paper will be discussing the past, present, and future of web designers and developers. First by looking at the brief history of websites and how it has evolved to what is it today. Second will be discussing the present trends of how people are viewing websites on mobile devices such as: cell phones and tablets, and how that affects the design and development of websites. Lastly we’ll discuss the possible expectations the future has in store for us, devices like Google glass and other advancements to come.
After visiting and examining the PBS Web site, I was able to conclude that it is an extremely successful entertainment and educational site. The Web site has won many substantial awards, including the prestigious "Webbie Award" in 1998 and 1999. According to a recent survey, fifty-six percent of users at the PBS Web site are male and sixty percent are between the ages of eighteen and forty-four. Forty-four percent of the Web site users have children and fifty-seven percent make online purchases. (Gallup/Plaw Release: Survey of 40,000 Internet Users. Fall 1998.)
Now that we are living in an ever changing world, technology is viewed as the most resourceful tool in keeping up with the pace. Without the use of technology, communication would be limited to using mail for delivery and encyclopedias for research. Although technology has improved the way we communicate and find information for research, the information is not always valid. Unfortunately, for those of us who use the internet for shopping, research, or reading articles of personal interest the information is not treated the same as a your magazine or book. While such literature is reviewed by an editorial staff, internet literature or information can be published by anyone. In order to reap the full benefit of having the use of technology for any purpose, there are five basic criteria’s one must keep in mind as an evaluating tool for deciding whether or not the particular website is a reliable source for information.
Aesthetic design has received great attentions extensively in various service system, product design (e.g., Hagtvedt and Patrick, 2014; Norman, 2004; Sauchelli, 2013), website design (Cai and Xu, 2011; Lavie and Tractinsky, 2004; Wang, Minor, and Wei 2011) and has been proved to be an important element for marketing. Most research reports that aesthetic design is a determinant of the marketplace success (Bloch, 1995), some researchers emphasized that aesthetics is important to the success of a website in attracting potential users’ attention and providing them with an enjoyable interactive experience (Hallnas, 2002; van Schaik, 2009). For example, Apple's website and iOS uses a range of unique interface elements that have become apparent on web apps and websites alike.
All of these will be easy to use whether you are a novice or an expert
... about it. The website also has nice appearance, but not as professional as the first one. The big plus for this website is the forum dialog section where users can communicate to each other by sending messages in the context of the digital camera. The third website has the simplest looks of the three. Two best features of this are the active buyer’s guide (these virtual sales assistants give the best product recommendations based on one’s specific needs and uses) and message boards which is very similar to the megapixel’s user forum. One couldn’t say if one of the three is the best since they complimented each other very well.
