Though each religion is unique, some religions have several traits in common. For example, many religions are polytheistic, meaning that there are many gods. But, some religions only believe in one god, meaning that the religion is monotheistic. The religions also have many things that differ with each other, like the sacred text, symbol, and traditions. These qualities are what make each religion different and special.

Hinduism and Buddhism both believe in karma and reincarnation, while Daoism and Shintoism revolve their beliefs around nature. Confucianism chooses not to focus on things we do not know, so their beliefs on death are limited. Bruce Barton sold a different idea of Jesus than most people were familiar with. In the film, Elmer Gantry sold religion with bravado and arrogance which was not the typical way of selling religion either. In each work, religion is being sold but Elmer is a more exciting and relatable character than Bruce Barton’s Jesus. Elmer Gantry sold religion in a similar way to Barton’s Jesus but did so in a more relatable manner.

They also believe that all things are created equal under one God. They all have books of what they believe to be God's word. The Jews have their book known as the Torah.
Although many religions have different sects; which, may share different ideas just like in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is evident that these religions believe in one god. The teaching and traditions of each religion make each religion unique in its own way.
All of these examples are ways that people are divided and separated by their religion. The different events, beliefs, and ways of living are grouped into a certain religion that makes them different from every other religion. Although, each religion has its own creation story, beliefs, rituals, practices, and ways of living, the specific way they do each thing and the acts they take place in causes people to categorize them as different and not like their certain group. Religion divides because of the way the people in each society perceive all of the other groups as something they are not.
