I accepted her offer, thinking of how much fun it would be to be around horses once again. My volunteer work with disabled children, horses and physical therapists helped me learn to be more patient with myself and others. What began as an opportunity to complete my service hours, ended as a gift to myself from a very special person.

The hippotherapy program helps disabled children mounted on horses do
exercises that teach them how to use different muscles of their bodies than what
can be accomplished with...

Service Learning Project : Nursing Home Facilities Essay

- Service Learning Project When you think of nursing home facilities, what comes to mind. The smell, looks of despair or maybe the loneliness. I don’t think enough adjectives exist to describe what is seen or felt among visitors or residents. Driving up to a nursing home is an experience in itself. Nothing can really prepare you for the expectations your mind has set. Everyone should have some sort of standard they would want for their loved ones. Growing up, I spent countless hours at different nursing home facilities....   [tags: Nursing home, Nursing, Care of residents, Family]

Essay Community Service Changed My Life!

- "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma Ghandi "Love cannot remain by itself — it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action and that action is service." - Mother Teresa I have always enjoyed the feeling that I acquired after doing a good deed or simply helping someone out. However, I had no idea that my 40 hours of community service would turn into over 400 hours, for no reason other than the fact that I love it!. Through volunteering I have learned that many organizations exist only with the help of volunteers from the community, I have seen the amount of joy that volunteering brings to those who you are helping out, I discovered a feeling of self-satisfacti...   [tags: Community Service Essays]

Community Service and Volunteering Essay

- “Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.” - Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just ‘hours we need to be able to graduate’ and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small-time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time....   [tags: Contribution to My Community Service]

Community Service Essay

- People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have. One experience that I will always remember is the day I was running errands and had the opportunity to meet a very special patient....   [tags: Community Service Essays]

The Benefits of Community Service Essay

- A typical school day for many University students consists of sitting in a classroom and listening to a lecture. While there is great value in this style of learning, my community service work has taught me the many benefits of learning not only from professors, but also from fellow classmates, partners in the community, and individuals at volunteer sites, regardless of their age or educational background. It has also taught me to be an active member of our community and to share the burdens and responsibilities that goes along with that role — caring about the living conditions of others....   [tags: Community Service Experience Paper]

Essay on The Joy of Community Service

- Never in my wildest dreams would I have even begun to imagine that community service could  be such a rewarding experience. As the oldest child I never had the opportunity of having someone that  could help me with my homework, play with me and help me when I needed something. My parents  once in a while could help me with homework, but once we moved to the United States I was definitely  on my own considering my parents didn’t know enough English to help me. From this moment forward, I  can say I’m very proud of myself for being where I am now without any help throughout my school  years....   [tags: Community Service Essays]
