Communication Experiences and Habits Communication is something that we are fortunate to practice everyday. Since literacy has advanced so much in the twenty-first century, there are multiple ways in which communication can be expressed. We are constantly being introduced to new literacy experiences, allowing us to experiment with the written, oral, visual, and electronic modes of communication. It is important to learn about and practice each of these modes in order to grow as a better communicator. The first time I remember putting the modes of communication, or WOVE, to work was in 7th grade. Everyone in the class was separated into groups and was asked to make a power point presentation about an animal. We chose to do our project on seahorses. I remember being a little nervous about this assignment because I was not the most confident writer, I was not very experienced with power point, and I had never given a presentation before. However, once we started our project, I realized that everyone else in my group was just as nervous and inexperienced as I was. This assignment was when I was first introduced to WOVE. Although, our project was not perfect, it was a step in the right direction for bettering our communication skills. This assignment taught me how the aspects of WOVE (written, oral, visual, and electronic) work together and why each one is so important. Overall, everything I learned from this first project, I am still learning to improve today, like how to compose a successful paper and how to give a successful presentation.
