Communication apprehension (CA) as McCroskey stated it “an anxiety syndrome associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons.” In another word, communication apprehension or speech anxiety is like an anxiety that occurs when an individual is speaking or communicating in front of a group, classroom, or people. However, not every individual will have the same kinds of communication apprehension or anxiety because there are four different types of CA. Dr. Patricia Palmerton stated “The higher score an individual get on the Personal Report of Communication Apprehension (PRCA) developed by McCroskey, the more anxiety that person has toward communication, the scores range from 80-120.” While those with a low …show more content…

However, when he gives a speech in front of small group, he did not has the anxiety feeling. From the journal, “The Effects of Communication Apprehension on Nonverbal Behavior,” McCroskey described that CA has “handicapped” those who were affect by it. (paragraph 7). The problems were that it discouraged many individuals such as students with high CA to avoid involvement in group discussion, the lack of social skills, and less participation. Also, CA makes the students to interacted less than those who is with a low CA. For example, in a classroom, high CA would prefer to sit in the back of the room or on the side. In “Communication Apprehension and Shyness,” by Berger, McCroskey, and Richmond stated that those who have “substandard communication skills” or “ethnically or culturally divergent” also have a high CA that discourage them for communicating. Who suggested that “we feel sorry because we cry . . . afraid because we tremble”?
Children who suffer from ASD usually have the appearance of normal development and then become withdrawn and regress from social interaction (Melinda Smith, 2013). The impaired social interaction of the disorder affects communication both verbally and non- verbally (Melinda Smith, 2013). Their communication with others and the world around them is also affected, as well as their thinking and behavior (Melinda Smith, 2013).
The client being observed is a sophomore at UNH named Mike. Since attending UNH, Mike has displayed symptoms of social phobia. These symptoms include feeling nervous being around large groups of people and having panic attack like episodes. As well as this, he also often confines himself to his room, rarely speaks in class, and does not have very many friends. Though this is the case in college, Mike has not always displayed these symptoms. He suffered a lot of ridicule as a child because of a rare hormonal disorder. This ridicule that he faced adversely affects his current condition. However in high school, this ridicule stopped, and he was able to make close friends and found what he loved to do. Though Mike is nervous about attending therapy, he feels that something needs to be done in order for him to change.
Taking part in this unit has enabled me to use my verbal skills to exchange ideas with my fellow students. I am very self-conscious about my voice and will worry about whether or not I am speaking too loudly or saying inappropriate things to the other person. Being recently diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome has clarified to me the reason for the existence of these problems and I now worry a lot less about these things than I did before. On a professional level I am able to communicate technical details to people but when it comes time to socialise with my fellow students or co-workers I still find myself freezing up and moving into the background to avoid difficult situations. A lot of people would misinterpret this as shyness. During the course I had to make a verbal presentation to then class about how to set up a social media account. I
Fear is a vital response for survival, in the face of threats and is also an important component of behavioural defence systems in mammals. Ivan Pavlov (1920’s) introduced the concept of classical conditioning. Classical conditioning can be used to learn various emotions including fear; this is known as a conditioned emotional response (Carlson, 2010, p.g 369). In this essay, Pavlovian (cued) fear conditioning and contextual fear conditioning will be discussed, and then the neural mechanisms underlying fear conditioning will be evaluated using various studies carried out on animals and humans.
When I started my seventh grade school year, I was a little bit nervous, but as the weeks started rolling in, my fears started to fade. Some of my fears consisted of getting lost in the school hallways, I would have mean teachers, or even losing my homework. However, most of my worries have faded. One major worry that I had was losing my homework, as I’d mentioned above. I am only afraid of losing my homework because I know that sometimes I can be a forgetful person. This mostly happens when I do not get enough sleep, which is another of my fears. The only time that I don’t get enough sleep is when something is bothering me, or if I decided to stay awake for an extra hour the night before. A very minor fear was that I would get lost in the

During my demonstration speech, I was affected by my speech anxiety. Some of the viewable symptoms were the shaking of my hands and also the stuttering of speech. I was able to control myself and relax after I started getting into my information. I did use some of the suggested relaxation techniques to relieve my anxiety. Before I got up to speak I thought confident of myself to help give me courage and confidence.
The Communication Accommodation Theory states when people interact they alter their speech to fit in or accommodate for other. CAT describes the psychological, social, and linguistic behaviors that people exhibit when communicating with each other (Coupland, Coupland, Giles, Henwood, 1988). Each individual has his or her own personality and motivation when involved in a conversation, this attribute are reflected in how the individual speaks, listens and then responds to the other person involved in the conversation. According to this theory, communication between two people can at any time be adjusted by either party in response to actual, perceived, or stereotyped expectations of the other person (Coupland, et al., 1988). This means that either party can change their communication style based on what they feel or pick up on during the conversation. The CAT theory can help understand how humans interact with one another while communicating.
Communication is something we all humans use. Communication “is the sharing of information between individuals by using speech”. People have ways of communicating some have their weaknesses in conversations and others have their strengths. When I communicate with others I feel that some things I say I do not verbalize right. I have two strengths and three weaknesses in my communicating. My three weakens in my communication are, check nonverbal feedback, to make people wrong and recognize that people understand information in different ways and my two strengths in my communication are being flexible, and take responsibility for the communication.
In one’s mind, there are two forms of fear; psychological and instinctive. Psychological is caused by over-thinking and uneasiness. Instinctive is caused by one’s natural instincts or behavior to something un-experienced. From feelings of uneasiness, to frightening thoughts, fear can lead to insanity. Fear portrays itself though many ways in society, depending on a person’s weakness. According to research fear is simply summarized into three words; intimidation, terror, and anxiety.
Whenever I had something to say, I could not bring myself to say it. I also made short pauses before I replied to someone’s question. If I did manage to say something, however, I would always stutter my lines in a way that would annoy the person I was talking to. Even making eye contact proved to be difficult. Because of this unpleasant activity, social anxiety sufferers make sure to never develop any sort of conversation with anyone. Severe cases of social anxiety can cause improper communication with even your closest friends and family. I became distant from my loved ones as a result. I kept quiet, despite my strong desire to express my thoughts. Having the inability to communicate with people will only prove to be difficult when attempting to live a normal, everyday

The paper will aim to discuss how motivation and reward can be effective with a work task. These will be determined by someone’s position and where they stand with the task that needs to be accomplished. Rewards can increase someone’s motivation to complete a task and that can be beneficial for them. Examining rewards given for effectively completing a task can increase a person’s motivation to work their absolute hardest on a task in the workplace. Through various studies and research, this idea has been proven to be true with a person’s mindset on carrying out a feared communication work task.
