Bullying happens all around us whether we realize it or not. Most are taught to stick up to bullies, and to tell a trusted adult if one is being bullied. However, sometimes bullying happens and others are afraid to stick up for the person in fear that they will then be bullied. In order to be a bully it does not matter the age, location, or type of bullying. Bullying is bullying. Verbal, physical, and cyberbullying are the three most common types of bullying, and they can have negative long term effects on someone. “Verbal bullying is the use of words to degrade and demean the victim, while making the aggressor look dominant and powerful” (What is Verbal). “Physical bullying can include harassment like name calling or stalking behaviors, and more violent abuses like hitting or intimidating” (What is Physical). Physical bullying can happen to anyone no matter the age or gender. Physical bullying could be when someone gets beat up every day at school, when someone gets pushed down on the playground, or more serious instances like child abuse or abusing ones significant other. All types of bullying are serious, and can often be difficult to escape from. If someone is being bullied at school, a good way to stop the bullying is to report the bully to a trusted adult. Another way to stop the bullying is to try to avoid the bully. If someone is being abused at home, whether it is a child or adult, the best thing to do is to tell someone. For a child being abused at home it can be harder to escape it. If they are able to tell an adult they trust, then that adult can get them the help that he or she may need. For an adult being abused by his or her significant other, the best solution would be to try to get out of the relationship in the calmest way as possible.
