Architecture has been around since the beginning of humankind. It is how homes are designed, castles are built, and how there is a roof over your head. Many buildings that we live in, work in, or go to school in have all carefully been designed by highly trained Commercial Architects. Architecture, specifically Commercial Architecture, can seemingly defy gravity with sideways buildings or glass walkways dangling hundreds of feet into the air. Commercial Architecture is what designs the mile high skyscrapers and other vast commercial buildings, as well as awe-inspiring churches and museums, and spreads fresh ideas on designing.
Mile high skyscrapers as well as other vast commercial buildings are just some of the many buildings that Commercial Architects design. The Sydney Opera House in Sydney Australia is an unbelievable example of how buildings are designed in specific ways. The Sydney Opera House was designed “specifically to improve sound quality and dispersal,” (Facts About Sydney Opera House.) Buildings like the Sydney Opera House use many different materials that allow for sound to bounce around or be held in. “The extensive use of wood offers excellent control of reverberation and echo as well as generating a softer reproduction of sounds.” Certain other materials like cloth or carpet holds in sound while materials such as wood or fiberglass let it bounce around. The seats in this opera house are all covered in wool which is a great absorber of sound. The Commercial Architect of The Sydney Opera House worked extensively to use the right materials so that the sound is heard in a balancing way that the owner wanted to hear.

...just the physical features. This is the same way Gothic Architecture was design to overwhelm and make feel the individual inferior to the institution behind the building. Consequently, the conceptual aspect of the building came as a secondary element in the design of the building. Such as the experience and feeling of the people coming to this building and being inside. The same way Gothic Architecture did it.
The attacks of September 11 were some of the worst ever experienced in the history of the United States. These attacks generated a widespread feeling of insecurity and uncertainty throughout America, compelling the government to revise safety measures and protocol pertaining to the wellbeing of the United States. However, some aspects of security under modification, such as building codes, are being questioned by many. The collapse of the twin towers, due to the impact from the airplanes, spurred a movement focused on strengthening the integrity of skyscrapers and other high-rise buildings throughout the United States. Though the terrorist attacks proved to be a tremendous tragedy, the application of measures this great is not seen as a proven necessity. The circumstances of the incident proved to be so extraordinary that dramatic modifications to the structure of building should not take place because of such an event. Therefore, the building codes of skyscrapers should not be changed due to the terrorist attacks of September 11.
Architecture is the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings. It includes the complex and carefully designed structure of something. Architects are people who practice this art in which they mostly design buildings and homes that are suitable for people to be in and use for everyday needs. Throughout history there have been many influential architects who have designed world famous structures that are located all across the world. One of these architects is Philip Cortelyou Johnson, who designed major buildings in the United States of America. Like most architects, he has an interesting history of how he became what he is, his own architectural style, and his accomplishments.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, exactly at 9:22 a.m., I woke up to start my day and turned my television on. Instantly, Fox News had reported that a commercial plane had smashed into the Twin Towers of New York City, just minutes earlier. While the story was certainly shocking, I wanted to know more and watched the horrific aftermath unfold, as it continued to happen. I remember an incredible feeling of sadness that I could do nothing to help the people in these buildings, as well as a great concern that more attempts could be made to create further tragedy elsewhere.
According to Lee W. Waldrep (2010), author of the book Becoming an Architect: A Guide to Careers in Design, an architect is an imaginative person who designs a wide spectrum of structures for buildings (Waldrep, 2010, p 2). These structures must meet safety requirements in addition to being aesthetically pleasing. Architects must compete with other architects to attract clients by presenting designs. This process generally rests on building a good reputation as an architect. Because of the nature and the large amounts of time spent on designing, architects must work long hours when their skill is required during different stages of construction.
September 11th, 2001 will forever be etched into American history as one of the worst terrorist attacks against the United States. To memorialize the victims that perished on this day, an official memorial was built in the footprints of the World Trade Centers (WTC). While the goal of this memorial was to be peaceful, some debates have arisen about the memorial. Some believe that they should have something different for the design and others dislike components of the winning design. Even with the many debates that surround this memorial, it is still a valuable piece of art to the public that provides a place for families and others to remember those who were killed on that day. People that visit the memorial connect with it physically and emotionally.

Metal and wood, bricks and stone; Webster’s Dictionary defines a building as “a structure (such as a house, hospital, school, etc.) with a roof and walls that is used as a place for people to live, work, do activities, store things, etc.” Buildings are all this and more. Buildings tell a story. The design of a building reveals a story of the time period in which it was built. It allows a glimpse into the past or a peek into the future. For the designer or architect, it is an expression of what inspires them. From the ancient ruins in Greece to Dorton Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina; architecture inspires us.
From the moment I stepped foot in the elevator to the 102nd floor, I knew the memories of this ride would last a lifetime. As I looked around at a plethora of different faces from around the world, I noticed that the elevator was silent. Surrounding me was a time-lapse video of New York City over the centuries, beginning in the 1500s. My eyes widened as I watched it grow from grasslands to the city that never sleeps. Midway to the top, the skyline changed drastically forever. The New York City landmark, the Twin Towers, vanished from existence, and the creation of the Freedom Tower began.
The attacks surprised the world. It was the biggest terrorist attack ever on American soil. The twin towers of the World Trade Center were the highest buildings in New York, and famous throughout the world. Their destruction changed the city's skyline and would have a huge impact on the rest of the world’s history.
Architecture is such a wide thing when we talk about buildings and projects. Architecture is defined as the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings. One of the Renaissance man who not only define...
Architecture, the practice of building design and its resulting products, customary usage refers only to those designs and structures that are culturally significant. Today the architecture must satisfy its intended uses, must be technically sound, and must convey beautiful meaning. But the best buildings are often so well constructed that they outlast their original use. They then survive not only as beautiful objects, but as documents of history of cultures, achievements in architecture that testify to the nature of the society that produced them. These achievements are never wholly the work of individuals. Architecture is a social art, yet Frank Lloyd Wright single handily changed the history of architecture. How did Frank Lloyd Wright change architecture?

With the help of architectural engineers, our world has become very civilized and advanced over the past decades. Like all other engineers, architectural engineers use logic and creativity to solve problems. They come up with effective designs to assist people in their everyday tasks. In our daily lives we are surrounded by buildings. Places that were once a dessert are turned into cities that now hold amazing buildings. Houses, schools, shopping centers, offices, apartments, airports, etc. are very essential in our society. These buildings do not only please the eye, but they also provide us with shelter and are made to withstand hurricanes, earthquakes, snow storms, and strong winds. Would these buildings still function efficiently and provide us with a stable shelter if it were not for architectural engineers? There are different engineers with each their own expertise, but for buildings in particular, architectural engineers are needed. Architectural engineering, also known as building engineering, is an interdisciplinary program that integrates important knowledge from different disciplines such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering , architecture, physics, chemistry, biology, and economics (“Building Engineering”). An architectural engineering professional has to master all the different disciplines because the design of building systems often requires the application of the disciplines. Architectural engineers are important in today’s society because they possess the knowledge and qualifications to work on complex buildings, lead project teams, and most importantly, to provide us with a safe environment.
Every person with a job, no matter what occupation, makes an impact on society in some way, shape, or form. Some people leave their legacy by defending people in court, some saving lives in a hospital, and others planning and building works of construction. These planners have a large-scale effect on everybody in society and have an eye for detail, as well as enjoy using mathematics to ensure proper construction. That is why I have chosen architecture to be my career. An architect is a person who designs buildings and supervises their construction. A broader view of an architect is a person who is responsible for inventing or realizing a particular idea or project. Architecture varies from the pillars of the Greek Parthenon, to peoples’ homes. I often find myself marveling over the design of large-scale building projects such as the skyscrapers of New York City. Most of these buildings belong to a myriad of well-known companies such as Chase and Toshiba. That is why I have particularly chosen to become a commercial architect.
