Innovative technology is largely taken for granted in our society today. Computers, tablets, cell phones, and the internet are just some examples that continue to evolve and move our society into the future. Let’s rewind 15 years ago; there were no smart phones or tablets, the internet was at its beginning stages using phone lines to connect your modem to the World Wide Web. Companies saw how important this type of technology could be to the world and began working on advanced solutions for the needs of society. Now, technology is something everybody uses on a daily basis and many of us don’t realize how far we have come. Smart phones are used as computers which many companies use for business on the go. There are credit card readers that can be plugged into a smart phone that can take payments and immediately transfer them to bank accounts. The purchase order can automatically be filed into an application where the business owner can track all the transactions and forecast for the future. Computers are more than half the size that they used to be. The operating systems are advanced and user friendly. We have developed cable and DSL modems with wireless routers that allow computer users to connect to the internet without any physical connection. The speeds are faster then they have ever been which allows us to connect and retrieve information faster then ever before. There are many different companies that have helped push technology into the new century but none more prominent than Comcast. Comcast is one of the leading media companies in the world today. There main product offerings are TV, internet, and home phone. As stated before, social media is an effective, low cost way to reach mass amounts of people. Comcast could offer special promotion pricing or gift cards through social media sites. There, the feedback could be instant. If a customer is happy with the service, they will immediately post a positive response on a social media sight. That feedback can then be read by thousands of people hopefully sparking an initiative to call and either subscribe to new services or update current services. Comcast’s value chain is the key to their future success. Customer service and innovation needs to be the number one goal for Comcast. With these two segments in mind, Comcast can push on into the future and maintain their top seat in the media industry.
The company that I have chosen is Comcast Cable Company. Currently, Comcast is the leader in the home entertainment industry. Comcast offers their customer's: cable television, internet service, home phone service, television screaming app, home security, and mobile service. The company is working to compete with AT&T/ Direct TV, Dish Network, Hulu, Netflix and sling Tv. The competitors do offer cheaper service, but Comcast is known mostly for its great internet service. Xfinity Instant TV and Xfinity Mobile are the newest product that has been launched by Comcast. Xfinity Mobile has two phone plans, and you must have Xfinity internet service. These services are the primary ways we communicate, express ourselves, and reach out in our ever increasing global world. In the United States, these services are provided by a number of different firms, chief among them is Comcast, being the largest provider of Cable and internet in America, and a large telephone provider. Next to it stands Time Warner Cable, the second largest provider of cable in the United States. The decision for Comcast to buy Time Warner Cable for forty-five billion dollars in 2014 has led to many criticizing the merger, calling it a monopoly. Others have called the whole cable system an oligopoly. For it to be a monopoly or an oligopoly, it would have to fit their respective categories. The merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable would not create a true monopoly, but would give it significant market power because it has monopoly resources and can be considered a natural monopoly. It will also further its power in a market dominated by oligopolies. People argue that it is not a danger to Americans for this merger to happen, but when one looks at the practices Comcast already uses, it paints

People will pre-order things months in advance just so they have a leg up on everyone. There are people who stay in-line and camp out over night, just so they make sure they can get their hands on the new technology. People are willing to pay an outrageous amount of money for new ways to use the Internet like phones, tablets, video game consoles, computers, laptops, and now even TV’s have Internet capabilities. My career has been centered on technology starting at the age of 15 at CompUSA. I spent seven year in the organization until they were liquidated due to exceptionally poor financial management and a lack of brand unity. During this time I was heavily investing in school and other facets of life, so I only climbed a few levels to become a supervisor. Since the closure, I have been with Comcast building my career as a leader in this organization. In today’s world the vast majority of the population owns a cell phone. Cell phones are a huge part of people’s everyday lives. Since the 1940’s when mobile phones became available for automobiles, phone companies have made huge strides in making mobile phones more efficient, much smaller, and more available for anyone to use. There was a time where only people of wealth had these types of mobile phones. Now people from all social classes own a cell phone. They are extremely convenient and have the ability to do just about anything you can think of. There is an “app” for everything. You can make phone calls, text message, surf the web, pay your bills, read books, catch up on social media, and even listen to you music all from one small handheld device. Cell phones play a huge role in today’s economy. Businesses such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have become huge public corporations with large stakes in the stock market. Between these companies among several other phone companies they have created millions of jobs and opportunities. Cell phone companies have now created what are known as “smart phones”. These phones are typically slim and sleek and have countless versatile abilities. However, cell phones have not always been so “smart” or small for that matter.
