Weight Loss Options Obesity is a major epidemic today in the United States. However, there are many options for one to consider when one tries to lose weight. Many who need to lose weight do not have the willpower to do it alone. This is why programs have been developed to help encourage and motivate society to eat healthier and exercise. Unfortunately, it is hard to find a weight-loss program that is not expensive or detrimental to one’s health. Some choices are: the economical diets, the slender diets, or the nutritional route. These all have costs and benefits, but it is crucial to examine each diet option to determine which is best. The most crucial aspects to consider are; what is the healthiest and what is the least expensive way to lose weight. Even so, some people want to take the easiest path to weight loss, so they invest in a pill or an operation. Weight loss pills are for those who refuse to budge in their lifestyle choices. Pills can cost a fortune and can have long-term consequences. Surgical procedures are often effective, but not recommended for the typical person. There are three main categories of weight-loss options; one is inexpensive, one is healthy and one is both healthy and inexpensive. Those in desperation may only worry about their success in losing weight. After all that is the goal of the program. Imagine being thin and unhealthy; possibly developing diabetes. Then consider being emaciated and broke, left alone to keep the weight off. Are these better alternatives? The first type of weight loss strategies is; the economical detrimental diets. This turns into a cycle of weight loss and gain, which can increase “the risk of degenerative diseases such as obesity, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer” (Vaghefi par. 7). These diseases come into the picture due to the cycle. Fad diets promote weight loss, but not fat loss. When the goal weight is attained, and the diet stops, weight is put back on, which leads to more fat being put into the body than taken out and faster weight gain. When losing weight, the biggest way to avoid developing these major health issues is to “not believe or follow any of the fad diets that promise easy and quick weight loss, because there is no such thing” (Vaghefi par. 8). The FTC deceives consumers by using advertisement weight-loss and as a result it has collected almost $107 million since 2010 (Giorgianni, 2014).
