College Is Not For Everyone

The continuous talk about idea of every student needs to go to college has caused the idea of college not being the right choice for everyone to be almost inexistent. By exposing the reasons why many students attend college, acknowledging that that a four year college is not the only way students can further their education, and recognizing that there is a great demand for craftsmen and skilled laborers, one will understand that college is not always the correct pathway for a student to be financially successful.

Yes, the majority of students do indeed attend a four year college to further their education. However, there is a growing population is students who attend four year college for reasons other than to learn. Author Pharinet Pheng mentions a few reasons why students attend college in her essay titled “Is College for Everyone?”. “Once upon a time, college was a place you went when you wished to learn. Now, college is the place you go when you want to get a job, or appease your parents, or because you are ‘finding yourself’” (Pharinet 681). ...tresses that the only way a student is to be financially successful and further their education after high school is through attending a four year college and completing a four year degree. The continuous talk about four year colleges has cause many students to think that a four year college is the only choice they have to further their education, while that simply is not the case. Many students are not attending a four year college for the correct reasons. Many students also do not understand that there are other means to further their education. And, many students do not understand that going into the labor force and becoming a skilled worker/craftsmen is not a bad idea. The thought that a four year degree is right for everyone is simply to true. Even though a hat may say “one size fits all” there will always be people who find that the hat just does not fit them.

College is not for everyone Essay

- College is not for Everyone One question that comes to mind when graduating high school is, “should I attend college?” For many graduates this question have a very obvious answer. A high school graduate may state that, “college is the best option if one is trying to get a higher level of education, and will help one compete for a higher paying job.” However, in my opinion most graduates do not consider the fact that going to college is a very big decision to make and that the schoolwork will not be easy....   [tags: Student Loans, Vocational Training]

College Is Not For Everyone Essay

- Some people say that college is not for everyone. I happen to agree with that statement. People, especially those in high school, feel a huge amount of pressure to attend college. With that pressure, they make hasty decisions. They might pick a major they do not even truly want to major in. Someone has said, “Guidance counselors and parents who automatically encourage young people to go to college straight out of high school regardless of their skills and interests are being thoughtless about the best interests of young people in their charge.” (Murray 249)....   [tags: High school, Higher education, Richard Branson]

Is College For Everyone? Essay

- The article I chose to analyze is “Is College for Everyone?” In today’s society, everyone would say that education is the key to success. People would say that a person would not get far without having some form of a degree. In reality, college is just not for everyone. Some people would rather just get a job when they graduate high school. People say that a person might not be able to find a good paying job if a person does not go to college, but in reality there are a lot of jobs out here in the world that make plenty of money....   [tags: High school, University, Education]

Why College Is Not For Everyone Essay

- Everyone grows up looking forward to one thing; the future. Some choose a family, a business, the military, or even a stay at home job, but a big candidate in many situations is college. With well over four thousand colleges to choose from, it can be difficult to find one that best suits a specific individual. In high schools, we are teaching our students how to apply to college, and how to find colleges that best suit one’s preference in major or even distance. Although it is easy to argue that college is not for everyone, I believe a college education is beneficial to the public good, preparation of life, and lastly, financial stability....   [tags: Higher education, High school, Secondary education]

- Four Year College May Not Be For Everyone Dropouts are on the rise, according to collegeatlas.org, “70% of Americans will study at a 4-year college, but less than 2/3 will graduate” and “30% of college and university students drop out after their first year” (“College Dropout Statistic”). This shows that more people are getting into a four year college but they are not all graduating and many are dropping out. This will cause lots of problems for students in the future. They will acquire more debt with no degree for a potential higher paying job....   [tags: Higher education, University, College]

College Is Not for Everyone Essay

- Society pushes today's youth towards higher education. The goal of grade school is to prepare the students for middle school. The goal of middle school is to prepare the students for high school. Should Everyone Go For College? Essay

- When I began my senior year, the number one thing which people asked me was where I was going to college. Whether they actually knew me or not, that would be the first thing they asked once they found out I was in the final stretch of my high school career. Now, I obviously had a pre-planned answer for them, since I had answered the question so many times, but I always found it to be peculiar that people didn’t actually care at all about what I was going to do with my life; they just wanted to know where I was going to get my expensive piece of paper from....   [tags: High school, College, Secondary school]
