When I arrived in Italy in May 1998, my first order of business was to sample some Italian coffee. Being an avid coffee drinker, and having heard that Italians brew the best in the world, I was quite eager to find a little bar that would cheerfully quench my craving. I was not disappointed. The cappuccino that I sipped that day was a two-layer affair, a mountain of rich foamy milk atop a modest amount of strong, hot espresso.

The coffee business has developed, through relationships with customers, a language that is exclusive to coffee drinkers and regulars of Tim Horton's. Examples included while ordering are "double double" which means coffee with double cream and sugar, or "ice cap" which means ice cappuccino. The main purpose of this language seems to have evolved through convenience, but its existence is very beneficial to the business. This language speeds up the ordering process and goes well with their greeting of "how can I help you" while a large smile is on the employees face. The greeting is friendly, but not too friendly in that it does not open up any other conversation other than ordering. The language is quick and to the point, wasting no time.

There are hundreds of bases a milkshake can have; it can have syrup bases, candy bases, or both. The easiest milkshake to make are plain syrup based, such as chocolate. The chocolate syrup is very creamy, and the easiest to mix. Once the server has the base of the milkshake in the cup, the next step is to fill the right amount of milk in the cup. The server needs to watch because if too much milk is poured the milkshake will be too liquidy.
When Starbucks started their target market were people who enjoyed coffee not just for the energy boost that they got from the caffeine, but people who enjoyed sitting down and drinking a well-prepared cup of coffee. Upon visiting Italy and falling in love with the coffee bars and the experience that they offered, Schultz envisioned a place between home and work where you could just sit and enjoy your coffee. Starbucks wanted to control their coffee from “raw green bean to the steaming cup” this meant that they had to talk with their farmers to make sure the quality was up to their standards. They

Americans are obsessed with a lot of things: our smart phones, celebrities, and finding a good bargain. But perhaps the thing we’re most obsessed with is good ol’ coffee. For many of us, our mornings are perfectly diabolical without at least a cup or two or three of the stuff. And, come 2 o’clock, when we know in our heart and bones we’ll never make it ‘til five and we need that pick me up, many of us head to the nearest deli or barista to grab a cup of “second wind.”
The clever and witty Starbucks sizes are tricky for those who don’t get frequent coffee miles. Simply put the small is tall, grande is medium, and large is venti. There is also a hidden size, short, I call it three sips and I’m over it. The cups sizes are based on Italian words the CEO adored on a trip to an Italian coffee shop. It is important to know the size of the cup, because it affects the amount of milk and espresso used. The short uses 8 oz. of whole milk. For a tall you need 12 oz. of whole milk and only one shot, also called a solo espresso. For a Grande you need 16 oz. of whole milk, and three shots of espresso. A venti hot beverage uses 20 oz. of whole milk and three shots of espresso as well. In all hot espresso beverages you need to steam the milk in a metal pitcher, so that your milk can be properly aerated. I will teach you more about proper milk aeration in later
Coffee people drink coffee with a purpose, they need the caffeine to make them more alert and increase their productivity. On the other hand, tea drinkers usually drink tea because of the enjoyment that tea give them, the relaxations that tea provide. It is typical to imagine that a person holding a cup of coffee is working over night at an office and a tea person is often reading newspaper at Sunday afternoon. Unlike tea drinkers, coffee drinkers are more attached to their drink compared to tea drinkers. A coffee drinker must have his coffee fix every single morning otherwise he or she cannot function without it. However, a tea drinker can easily live without drinking tea for even a few days. Even though they both have caffeine inside their drink, coffee drinkers seem to be more addicted to caffeine and as time goes, they will become more dependent on
