Coffee is not only one of the most popular drinks in the world but one of the world major exports commodities. The Coffea plant is native to subtropical Africa and islands in southern Asia, where it was then then exported to other countries to cultivate. Coffee originated from Ethiopia, where it was first cultivated, and Yemen, where we get the earliest drinking of coffee. Today coffee beans are mainly produced in developing countries and in areas like South and Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and in Latin America, where Brazil is the world’s leading producer and exporter of green coffee and instant coffee. The American obsession with coffee has made United States one of the most coffee dependent countries on Earth; in fact the …show more content…
Coffea trees live about twenty to thirty years and there are two main kinds of Coffea; Coffea Arabica, which is around 60 % of world coffee production, and Coffea canephora or Robusta coffee, which stand for about 40% of the worlds coffee. Robusta beans are cheaper, lower-quality beans higher in caffeine and have a more bitter taste; meanwhile Arabica beans have a cleaner and stronger coffee taste with less bitterness (). Coffea plants are planted in the beginning of the rainy season where they grow quicker during hot rainy season and the berries mature during cool dry season. After growing for three or four years, the coffea plant produces flowers where the fruit of the plant known as coffee “cherries” appears. After these small “cherries” mature they are harvested during dry seasons, then dried and roasted to become the beans we use to make …show more content…
Coffee beans are not really produced in the United States and Europe because coffea plants require high and low altitudes, tropical and subtropical climates, frequent/annual rainfall, rich soil, specific temperatures and do not tolerate freezing temperatures. Coffea plants also require shade; although bright sunshine and warm weather are needed for the harvesting direct sunlight is harmful to the plants and therefore needs some form of cover in order to retain the moisture in the soil (). Brazil however uses sun-grown coffee and leguminous plants which delivers shade and enriches the soil with nitrogen. The ideal soil needed to grow these plants is one that is easily workable, provides good sub-surface drainage, a slightly acidic pH and a fairly balanced content of nitrogen, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and calcium. The terra-roxa volcanic soils of Brazil that carry much potash as well as organic material are the best(). These conditions are mostly found between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of

The most important part of the cup of coffee, the coffee beans, is typically harvested from South America, mainly because of the fact that Starbucks uses Arabica beans (Weinberg 1), which is dependent on a temperate climate that exists on the majority of the continent. The country that provides the biggest market supply of coffee beans for Starbucks is Brazil ...
There are many ways to get a good cup of coffee—through perculators, gravity systems, and steeping fresh gounds. However, espresso, which is usually considered a finer beverage, is made by taking about two ounces of espresso grind (ground arabica beans) packed tightly into the head of an espresso machine, and submitting it to high pressured hot water.
Coffee became a global beverage between 1500 and 1800 for two main reasons: religious practices and the emergence of mercantilism. A religious group called the Sufis, who are part of the Muslim religion, were some of the first people to drink coffee. Their coffee-drinking habit is the first reason coffee became a well known drink within the common population. Mercantilism, a second reason coffee became a global beverage, is responsible for the expansive spreading of coffee because without England’s (and other powerful countries) desire to make money off of trade and commodities, coffee never would have been produced as the large-scale commodity it came to be by the 1800s and remains to be to this day.
Besides the high demand and cost for gasoline these days, coffee is considered the second most traded commodity on worldwide markets next to oil. "Coffee is grown in more than 50 countries in a band around the equator and provides a living for more than 20 million farmers. Altogether, up to 100 million people worldwide are involved in the growing, processing, trading and retailing of the product" (Spilling the Beans , ). In 2001, coffee farmers and plantations produced over 15 billion pounds of coffee while the world market only bought 13 billion pounds. The overproduction in the coffee industry is not a usual thing and is one of the major reasons why prices vary throughout the industry.
Coffee grows only in the tropics, in Mexico, Central and Latin America, Indonesia, and Africa. The field must be at an altitude between 3000 and 5000 feet with a temperature between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. For optimum growth, coffee must have shade from nearby trees and overhead growth, but it also requires at least two hours of sunlight each day ("Shrinking Shadowland" 60). These are the only requirements nececssary for coffee to grow well.
As we know , there are a lot of people who start their day by drinking coffee . Caffeine is a very popular ingredient that is consume in foods, drinks, and medicines. In addition, caffeine can be products by a lot of makers such as coffee beans,
I have selected the Kicking Horse Coffee (KHC) brand since it is very rarely discussed in common literature. This is primarily because their business competitors (Starbucks and Tim Hortons), are more widely accepted and recognized across the globe since they have been around much longer then the KHC company. In brief, the KHC is a privately-held business that was Canada’s very first company to provide certified Fair-trade, organic, whole bean coffee. This Canadian firm was founded in 1996 by Elana Rosenfeld and her partner Leo Johnson in the Rocky Mountain town of Invermere, British Columbia. All KHC products are made from 100% Arabica beans, which in this company, had originated mainly in the shady areas of Ethiopia (and in some instances
Caffeine and coffee are a daily part of life for most people in modern society. The discovery of the coffee bean is said to have been in Ethiopia, when a sleepy eyed goat herder noticed his goats eating red berries, he then noticed the effect it had on them as they jumped and danced around him. He then tasted the berries and his eyes opened wide, he took them to the local village who also liked it and in particular the monks who used the berries to keep them awake during meditation.
Making the perfect cup of coffee doesn’t happen the first time. With instant coffee, K-cups, and coffee machines, as well as the popularity of cafés like Tim Hortons and Starbucks, it has become very easy for us to get our coffee fix, but it can take a long time for us to find the perfect cup. Many things go into making a cup of coffee, including the type of bean, the roast, the type of brew (hot or cold), milk preparation (steamed or cold), the amount of added milk, the amount of sugar, and other ingredients (e.g. cocoa, hazelnut, and caramel).
In the United States, coffee is the second largest import (Roosevelt, 2004). Furthermore, the United States, consumes one-fifth of all the worlds¡¦ coffee (Global Exchange, 2004). The present industry is expanding. It is estimated that North America¡¦s sector will reach saturation levels within 5 year (Datamonitor. n.d.). According to National Coffee Association (NCA), 8 out of 10 Americans consume coffee. In addition, it is estimated that half of the American population drinks coffee daily. The international market remains highly competitive. It is estimated that 3,300 cups of coffee are consumed every second of the day worldwide (Ecomall, n.d.). The latest trends included dual drinkers, an increase in senior citizens...
Americans are obsessed with a lot of things: our smart phones, celebrities, and finding a good bargain. But perhaps the thing we’re most obsessed with is good ol’ coffee. For many of us, our mornings are perfectly diabolical without at least a cup or two or three of the stuff. And, come 2 o’clock, when we know in our heart and bones we’ll never make it ‘til five and we need that pick me up, many of us head to the nearest deli or barista to grab a cup of “second wind.”
K.C. WILLSON p 4 ). Studies indicate that thanks to the country’s favorable ecological factors such as suitable altitude, optimum temperatures, appropriate planting materials, and fertile soil.). (Alemayehu p 6) , coffee grows in Ethiopia in several places at various altitudes ranging from 550-2750metrs above sea level. More than any other country, Ethiopia has abroad genetic diversity among its coffee verities. It is the center of origin and source of genetic diversity of the Arabica coffee plant to the world. Nine different coffee species are cultivated in the four region of Ethiopia, all with distinctive tastes, size, shapes and colors.
