Clean Eating and Disease Prevention
Clean eating is more than just a diet. It is a lifestyle choice that benefits the overall health, which includes a healthy weight, a strong immune system, and a healthy body. Clean eating is consuming natural foods that are whole, unprocessed and unrefined or those that are closest to its natural form. Following this lifestyle can be overwhelming at first, since it involves a lot of dietary changes, however; the lifetime results are definitely worthwhile. Starting off gradually can help you ease into the changes and don’t beat up yourself if you fall off the wagon once in a while. All it takes is the right attitude, determination and perseverance to achieve a healthy, long life.

Cut down on sugar intake - Excessive consumption of sugar can increase the risk of diabetes and heart disease. The recommended allowance of sugar intake by the American Heart Association is only 6 tablespoons in women and 9 tablespoons for men; however, on average, Americans consume at least 30 tablespoons of sugar daily. This will eventually lead to numerous diseases and weight gain. Avoid sugary beverages such as fruit-flavored punches and carbonated drinks.
Avoid processed foods - Anything that has unknown ingredient or more than one ingredient on the label are processed foods. These packaged foods are loaded with high amounts of unhealthy substances such as sugar, salt, saturated fat and trans fat. Excessive consumption of processed foods can cause obesity, indigestion and chronic inflammation thus the best option when it comes to choosing food products is sticking to those that are natural and fresh.

...n inhibiting cancer growth and this can be found in fruits and vegetables. Cruciferous vegetables in particular, are found to be effective in impeding the development of cancers such as breast, colon, liver, stomach and lung. This is because of several active compounds such as indoles, thiocyanates and isothiocyanates that helps in protecting cells from DNA damage, inactivating carcinogens and induce cell death or apoptosis. Key studies also shows its effectivity in reducing the risk of prostate cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and colorectal cancer.
Boost energy levels
Clean eating helps in providing long lasting energy levels than those provided by sugar and other energy boosters. These can give quick blood sugar spikes that crashes down eventually, while natural energy boosters found in food allow a slow and steady release of sugar resulting in lasting energy.
According to the article, Too Much Can Make Us Sick (http://www.sugarscience.org/too-much-can-make-us-sick/), “Heart disease. Diabetes. These chronic conditions are among the leading causes of death worldwide. Increasingly, scientists are focusing on a common set of underlying metabolic issues that raise people's risk for chronic disease. It turns out that the long-term overconsumption of added sugars is linked to many of these dysfunctions.” This means that people living today, have a lot more trouble with diseases because of our unhealthy sugar intake compared to the
The first step to take prior to beginning a raw food diet is to detoxify your body. A detox is needed for anyone feeling bloated or congested, tired and low in energy, unhealthy and overweight, or foggy and out of sorts. Unfortunately, most Americans fall into at least one or more of these categories. In the same way that we need a vacation after months of hard work, our body needs a vacation from the regular foods that we consume. Detoxification is key in boosting the immune
All the statistics and expert opinions reveal one thing – there is possibly a link between sugar and diabetes, but it is inconclusive to say whether it is or not, in a definitive way. There is an established link between soda and diabetes, but that seems to be as far as it goes. My uncle, had his share of soda, but he also had his share of high calorie foods. However, there does not seem to be a solid link between the foods he ate and diabetes. In short, it was necessary to cut back or reduce the amount of sugar he was consuming, but there was no reason for him to eliminate sugar intake as he did. In moderation and on a properly controlled diet a minimal amount of sugar would be fine.
Since our health is controlled by our diet, we highly need to consider the type of food we consume. Most of us shop for food that is tasty, but not necessarily healthy. Most our food today has a large amount of fat, salt, and other ingredients that can be unhealthy.
All throughout my life I have never had to watch my weight or worry about my eating habits. I have always been able to eat all kinds of different foods unhealthy or healthy it never mattered because of my high metabolism. I never stopped to think of the effects or the problems I could obtain over time if I kept eating the same way. However, after being deeply affected by this semester by my own food journal, The Food Inc. movie, and The Eater Reader I now have a better sense of wisdom and better understanding of the types of foods I was putting into my body, and have stopped drinking carbonation but with the lack of time I will not be able to give up my eating habits up.
Maintaining a healthy diet has many positives that go along with it. Like me, when I eat healthy, I feel more energized and more motivated to accomplish everyday tasks. Though feeling fit and motivated is important, for some, the main concern is their appearance, which is normal; but they do not understand that nutrition is the main contributor to weight lose. By eating clean, one will become the desired shape they strive for. As gym owner and personal trainer, Joe Howard, says, “Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.” This goes to show that even if one goes to the gym and pushes themselves to the limit, they will not end up with their desired figure if they do not eat healthy. Other than appearance, there are many positives that come from eating healthy. In an article about why proper nutrition is important, Case Western University lists many positives such as; the delay of aging, boosting of the immune system, limit tiredness and fatigue, and even enhance one’s ability to concentrate and alter mood (Why is Proper 1). These are just some of the rewards from eating clean. In order to maintain these benefits, it is important to understand what to fuel one’s body with and the reasoning behind
The people who are related to cooking and healthy dieting point at the fact that the unhealthy food is a “number one cause of the most common diseases, including cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and heart disease” (Maffetone). Among the food that contains immense amounts of sugar are cakes, ice-creams, and biscuits that are highly loved especially by children. They can easily become a reason for becoming fat and gaining overweight. The same situation is with the high content of salt in the junk food which might result in high blood pressure, and can consequently lead even to strokes and heart attacks. Ready-made food might also contain the substances like preservatives or taste enhancers that contribute to the taste and increase the expiration date. Nevertheless, as Jamie Oliver emphasized the commonly known fact, “diet-related disease is the biggest killer in the United States, right now, here today” (Oliver). The consumption of incorrectly balanced food results in severe outcomes for our health system, and those changes tend to be irreversible as well as the diseases are hard to
Food has been a common source of necessity in our everyday lives as humans. It helps gives us nutrition and energy to live throughout our life. Over several decades, the development of making foods has evolved. They have changed from natural to processed foods in recent years. Nowadays natural ingredients are barely used in the making of foods like bread, cheese, or yogurt. The food industry today has replaced natural food making with inorganic ingredients. The cause of this switch is due to processed foods being easier, cheaper and faster to make. Artificial nutrition and processed foods have been proven to last longer in market shelves then natural foods. Also, due to artificial additives in processed foods they help satisfy consumers taste more than natural ingredients. The method of producing processed foods is common in today's food industry and helps make money faster and efficiently for companies. Examples of this can be found in all markets that distribute food. Even though processed foods may be easier and faster to make, they are nowhere near as healthy for consumers compared to natural foods. Natural foods are healthier, wholesome, and beneficial to the human body and planet then processed foods.

Even if junk food does not result in obesity for some people, which is classified as being 20% over the ideal body weight (Castledine, 2004), the regular consumption of junk food can still lead to disconcerting health problems such as the common stomach ache and head ache, which can impede on every day activities. Another short-term effect of eating junk food is the sugar crash, which commonly happens after eating snacks with nearly half their calories coming from sugar adding up to 200 or more calories (Risher, 2010). Eating junk food that is high in sugars and carbohydrates provides a temporary mood and energy boost, caused by a rapid production of insulin, but results in a drop in glucose levels, known as a sugar crash, which many people compare to the feeling of a hangover (Reid, 2014). Both the long-term effects and short-term effects of eating junk food impacts the body in such a way that impedes the performance of everyday activities and
More and more people are looking for the best ways to keep fit. There are some growing trends around us; from Mediterranian to low-carb diets. One of the most popular diet programs is detox diet or cleanse diet. Some people are feeling better after cleansing “toxins”from their bodies. However, is detox diet effective at helping you lose weight and feeling healthy?
In modern day society, eating habits have completely changed from what they were in the past. More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese. Regularly eating junk food can cause many negative repercussions including weight gain, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes. Even though junk food tastes good, it is not nutritionally balanced and can affect a person’s health negatively primarily by excessive weight gain, illness, and health issues.
Many people think that eating healthy means depriving yourself of your favorite foods or even foods that are unhealthy. When in actuality, depriving yourself of certain foods can have a negative effect on your health and a negative effect on you. Living a healthy lifestyle is about moderation, not completely cutting yourself off from foods you enjoy. Whilst
Food has been known as an unavoidable component of life which makes it a basic necessity. There are two main types of foods:healthy food and fast food. Although they have some similarities ,there are a lot of differences between them. Healthy foods provoke energy and decrease the risk of so many diseases. On the contrary, fast foods are high in sugar and fat, which may lead to many health issues like heart and liver diseases. They both can be tasty and have several varieties to choose . On the other hand, there are two main differences between the two types. The first one is related to health . The second one is related to cost.
American often fail to understand the health factors caused by sugar added products. One commonly overlooked health issue caused by sugar added products is cardiovascular risk. The amount of dietary consumption must be accompanied by appropriate amount of daily exercise than weight gain is heightened. Adults who consume sugar added drinks daily are exposed to hypertension along with coronary heart disease. In addition, hypertension may lead to heart attack. Yet, coronary heart disease occurs from plaque building within arteries. The plaque buildup narrows the pathway through blood for fluent blood flow. Due to influent blood flow, the heart receives insufficient amounts of blood. This issue is linked to heart attacks caused by lack of blood received by the heart. Typically, consuming water is imperative for survival verses drinking soft drinks after every meal. However, American companies continue to add sugar into societies daily diet in relations to people craving sweets. Unfortunately added sweeteners such as corn syrup is less expensive than cane sugar causing companies to insure worse unhealthy diets. Furthermore, individuals fail to consider their eating habits, which causes multiple
