Grade 11 camp was an unforgettable experience which definitely tested my strength, both mentally and physically. In one of the many challenging activities, the cohort was split into different groups and each group was made to push an army truck down a road. We were given a break every 20 minutes, and I found it very satisfying to, even when on a ‘break’, encourage my peers and lead them through such a physically and mentally exhausting challenge. Other challenges involved us crawling through small, confined tunnels. I found great contentment in cheering people on and helping others to overcome their fears. It was a great experience to learn to lead better as it required a lot of team effort and mental fortitude to make it through all activities of the camp. Following the camp week, on the bus trip home I was able to reflect on different styles of leadership and how I developed. I personally found that I was best developed to lead by example rather than just instruction to my peers. I believe that this style of leadership encourages others to be involved and enthusiastic even when they are challenged. It is my desire to apply leadership skills that I acquired during grade 11 camp to various circumstances during studying and further into the workplace. I am looking to apply these leadership skills as while studying science and engineering, I have heard many group projects and activities are to be undertaken. This is similar to engineering in the workforce where every project can have dozens if not hundreds of engineers working together. I find the leadership skills will assist in really reaching a peak in the workplace to develop a lot of new and exciting things.

...pts challenging or difficult. As a result of this passion for helping others, it would be an honour to aspire towards being a tutor. I am really drawn to the idea of tutoring as it not only allows the opportunity to meet and get to know more people but allows me to share the passion I have found in studying maths and physics. I am also desiring to get involved in a lot of co-curricular activities such as drama groups in order to get to know more students and grow the societal idea of involvement in the campus. In short, my community passion lies in the involvement with other students both in and out of my course in order to encourage people to achieve the greatest results they possibly can. This stems from my goal to aspire to be a part of something big, to be someone who changes the world by reaching my goals while dedicating myself to help others to achieve theirs.

2. The best lessons I’ve learned in leadership came from experience with bad supervisors, learning to not be like them. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink is a proverb I have heard since I was young. Leadership is the skill of influencing people to accomplish goals (Huber, 2014). In today’s world with policy and technological changes the leaders must use their leadership skills to not only get the horse to the water, have him drink, but also do it with a smile an invite others to join him. Leaders use a variety of styles to accomplish their goals. I will discuss the leadership style that I utilize most often, how my style relates to leadership theories and the work type environment it is most useful in.
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. But I had an incredible set of adults guiding me along the way, who taught me that being a leader was not doing everything myself, being a leader
I first encountered the significance of leadership in the tenth grade. Berry College the largest campus in the U.S. was in search of school ambassadors to serve part in a seminar known as HOBY. To get chosen you had to write an essay describing your leadership roles, and at that moment I thought that I did not have any. I literally did not know what it meant to be a leader. I had to brainstorm till I remembered going through one of the most difficult times of my life. The lack of understanding the English language became one of my biggest obstacles, and even caused me to repeat a chapter of my life. However, I did not cease; I continued to fight and strove to help others who were susceptible of following my steps. I used my story as an example, and hoped that it would make a difference in someone else’s life.
During my time in the Intermediate Leadership Course (ILE) there have been many topics covered. Each of these topics were geared toward increasing our effectiveness as leaders. Many of the concepts were known, but not practice, while some were unknown. This experience has given me the insights and tools to improve in multiple ways as a leader. In the next three to five years I will take the steps necessary to utilize what I have learned and apply these concepts to be a better leader, peer, and subordinate.
Great leaders are few and far between, but everyone possesses the power to be a good leader. I have only been in the military for about three and a half years; most of this time has been spent at CMR St-Jean and RMCC. I have yet to be put into any major leadership roles, but from what I have been able to accomplish in regards to leading others and the leaders that I have been able observe over the last few years, I have started to slowly figure out what type of leader I would like to become. According to Johns and Saks (2014) leadership is, “The influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context” (206). From past experience, influencing others to do something can be complicated at times but can be accomplished by staying focused on the task at hand. The leadership roles I have been able to take part in have brought me to the conclusion that cohesion is the core factor of how I lead.
As I have developed in my job, school, and as a person, I found that I enjoyed helping others and want to become a leader. This paper will further describe how my experiences and background have shaped the leader I am today.
During the three months living and working in America at an inner city, underprivileged, disabled and able bodied summer camp I learnt how to deal with stressful situations in unfamiliar surroundings, and I believe I equipped myself excellently in these situations through my own self evaluation and the feedback I received from the camp director. Because of my abilities I was chosen to become a head counsellor for an encampment. This entailed leading and planning all activities for the other 12 staff and the 36 children that were under my guidance. Any problems which should have arisen I would use the leadership skills I have learnt from coaching to help me get to a solution. Being at a camp like this has helped heighten my awareness of not only physical disabilities; but also the emotional turmoil that people occur, and how to deal with certain situations in different ways. Because of the close quarters in which I lived and worked, communication was a key aspect to make sure everything ran smoothly. I also had to be considerate of everyone as not one person was the same, from race to religion to swimming ability to reading ability, and I believe this has helped me become a well-rounded individual with compassion and understanding of all people and

An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. The leadership development activities helped me to gain more knowledge on managerial skills, increased my confidence and strength on my weaker areas which earlier needed improvement. These activities act as a foundation to apply the skills in my workplace and personal life. It assisted me to develop a better understanding of what it takes to be a leader. I’m now well equipped to be a good leader.

To inspire and influence others, a leader must have many skills and abilities. As motivational speaker Jim Rohn, states, “ the challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.” (2010) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a singular goal is a considerable undertaking. Without effective communication skills and a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished, one will feel like they are trying to herd cats rather than leading.
Being a leader for in almost any given situation has been an innate quality that I have possessed for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself nominating myself for leadership positions. My most recent and fulfilling leadership position would be my eleventh and twelfth grade school years when I held the position of Drum Major for Purnell Swett High School’s Marching Rams. Being in this position meant that I had to give up the spotlight of performance, turn my back to the crowd, and lead my fellow band members on and off of the field of competition, high school football games, and community parades. Over the course of these two years, I have learned many defining qualities about myself and have learned how to incorporate these newly learned and innate qualities to my everyday life. Throughout this two year experience the quality that I feel tested more than others, was the quality of patience. Often times before I held this position, I found myself becoming extremely impatient with individuals and situations when they would not go the way as planned or as smoothly as I had planned for them to go. This position taught me that not all situations are going to run smoothly and that we need to make the best of what we are presented with. It also taught me that not all individuals learn at the same pace, the same way, and at times do not handle individuals close to their own age giving instructions on how to complete a task. With this realization, I found myself trying to find methods of teaching that appealed to all individuals as well as found ways of not coming off as trying to force individuals to complete the tasks the way that I see fit.
When life is perfect there is this feeling of overwhelming smiles. Like I want to scream or yell just because my life is so incredibly perfect. I felt this way the summer of 2002 at Lutherdale Bible Camp. But what is weird is that I don't know what makes it so perfect. Like what is the real difference from here to there? There I have this feeling of being so incredibly close to everything. As opposed to being to being in the real world, hearing and seeing what really goes on. When I was at camp I feel like I am really special. Like people wanted me to be there, and want to get to know me and just want to be around me. Of course I have plenty of friends and family at my house, but the people there are somewhat different. They make it seem like I am important.
