Since I was a child I have always been very excited and waiting patiently for Christmas to arrive because I always thought on Christmas as an occasion when the family gets together. And this past year (2009) was not different from the others; I was very excited waiting for Christmas. Especially, because I was going to spend this holiday in Mexico with my grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins, but all that emotion did not take me to a Christmas full of joy as the past years. Christmas was very important to me because it was Camila’s (my daughter) first time in Mexico, but after this holiday, the way I appreciated and treated my family changed. After Christmas 2009, I learned to value my mom and dad; I also learned to understand how important my brothers and sisters are in my life. In fact, something else that did not help my Christmas to get better was that it was very difficult and sad to feel my Papamin’s (my grandpa) absence. However, it is sad to think that I had to be without my family to learn what they are worth, and how important they are in my life.
Christmas 2009 was a holid...
Christmas has consumed itself. At its conception, it was a fine idea, and I imagine that at one point its execution worked very much as it was intended to. These days, however, its meaning has been perverted; its true purpose ignored and replaced with a purpose imagined by those who merely go through the motions, without actually knowing why they do so.
On September 6, 1620, 102 men, women and children from England boarded a small cargo boat called the Mayflower and set sail for the New World. The passengers left their homes in England in search of religious freedom from the King of England. Today they are known as "pilgrims."
When I was a kid, Christmastime was always very special too me and it still is today, I had to discern whether or not to open the presents when everyone else was still sleeping or to be patient

Today I am going to write about St. Nicholas Day and the tradition in my village on that day. Every year, children are very excited about December 6th. The night before, on December 5th, children have to clean their winter boots and then they put their winter boots near the window because they believe that, in the next morning, their boots will be filled with presents. But they also know that if they were really bad all year, for example if they didn’t listen to their parents, used bad words many times, or if their marks at school are not good, then St. Nicholas is going to fill their winter boots with potatoes and onions. Of course he knew who listened to their parents and who didn’t.
It is curious that as children, humans have the ability to observe and remember details of specific situations and instances yet lack the ability to describe them. Truman Capote, as a grown man, took advantage of his vivid memories and composed the short work, "A Christmas Memory." The story begins in late November, a month symbolic of all the years gone by that Capote could remember beginning preparations for Christmas fruitcakes.
It was complete chaos. My people running in terror, mothers and fathers looking for their children, babies and small children crying. Then i saw the boy from before. He saw me to. I saw him sprint away. I wanted to shout out comeback to the boy. How could he just leave us locked inside this van when we helped him get away. In the background i hear Roberto begging someone from the outside to open the van since one of the officers left it on the door. Locked but could be opened from the outside. I will never see my family again. Do they miss me? Of course they do. Just as much as i miss them. Looking back at the window i saw a man that might be the same age as Papa. Not far behind him was the boy. Shouting back to Roberto who had become all stony face again, that we were going to get out of here. That stone face vanished instantly when the words rolled out of my tongue. As the man approached the van he was saying something but i couldn't make out the words he was saying. When the man opened the door we hurried out. "Gracias hijo. Thank you for helping my son. Now its your turn to go to your family. Que Dios te benidga." If i had the time i would hug him and thank him. I will be going home
The past had a major impact on a person’s life, so it was important to look forward to life and remember the past. Ebenezer Scrooge and his late partner, Jacob Marley, were obsessed with making and keeping their money. After Marley died, the ghost of him came back (seven years after his death) to warn Scrooge about his future and what will happen if he didn’t change his lifestyle. That night, the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future visited him. When Scrooge was being shown his life by the Phantoms, he saw how his decisions had shaped his life and what his life will become if he did not change his lifestyle. At the same time, Scrooge also got the chance to relive his terrible past and learned many lessons from it. Scrooge’s past had
When thinking about the song, Twelve Days of Christmas, I absolutely cannot sing the song pass the second day of Christmas! Although, I am very familiar with the song I do not actually sing this song during Christmas time, even though it is a classic Christmas song. This probably explains why I cannot fully get pass the second verse of the song without complications, but I can still remember minimal words from parts of the song because my brain has not encoded the entire song in my long term storage. This could also explain why I can only retrieve minimal words from the song.
It was about two years ago when I arrived in United States of America, and I still remember the day when I left my native country, Honduras. As I recall, one day previous to my departure, I visited my relatives who live in San Pedro Sula. They were all very happy for me to see me except my grandmother Isabel. She looked sad; even though she tried to smile at all times when I was talking to her, I knew that deep inside of her, her heart was broken because of my departure the next morning. I remember that I even told her, “Grandma, do not worry about me, I’ll be fine. I promise that I will write you letters and send you pictures as much as possible.” Here reply was, “I know sweetie I know you will.” Suddenly after she said that I started to cry. For som...

Christmastime was always a magical time of year for me. The beautifully decorated shopping malls, with toys everywhere you looked, always fascinated me. And the houses, with the way their lights would glow upon the glistening snow at night, always seemed to calm me. But decorating the Christmas tree and falling asleep underneath the warm glow of the lights, in awe that Santa Claus would soon be there, was the best part of it all. As a child, these things enchanted me. Sure, the presents were great, but the excitement and mystery of Christmas; I loved most of all. Believing…that’s what it was all about. Believing there really was a Santa and waking up Christmas morning, realizing he’d come, as my sleepy eyes focused on all the fancily wrapped presents before me.
The word Christmas comes from Cristes maesse, an early English phrase that means Mass of Christ. The word Xmas is sometimes used instead of Christmas. This tradition began in the early Christian church. In Greek, X is the first letter of Christ's name. It was frequently used as a holy symbol.
The 31/05/2013 is a very special date for me and my husband André, it is the day our baby Kevin was born. After 12 hours of labour in the hospital, we finally heard him cry, we got to see him for the first time and there is nothing that can be compared to that feeling.
