The Christlike attribute that I chose was patience. This is something that I feel is an attribute that I would like to have. In my life this is something that I feel is not a strong point in it. This is an attribute that I feel would make me stronger spiritually as well as make my family life more of a joyes time around the Christmas season. In my reading and studying of the topic in the scriptures, the talks by the general authorities. I have learned a lot about how and what are some of the things that we want to do to have more patience in our everyday life. Elder Uchtdorf stated it well by saying “There is an important concept here: patience is not passive resignation, nor is it failing to act because of our fears. Patience means active …show more content…
Patience is not simply enduring; it is enduring well!” I feel that this is something that I can do right now. I feel that my patience runs thin when I get interrupted by someone that feels there time is more important at that moment. Another scripture that I read during my study into patience and what it will take to be patient. This is found in D&C 121:41 and says” No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;” This is about the priesthood and how the lord uses the priesthood to teach us patience. That we are not perfect in any way and that we need to be able to be patient with others. That just like I make mistakes in all that I do they also make mistakes in the things that they do. We need to be patient with them and look past there faults and help them when and where we can. Also something that I learned was that a good way to learn patience in things it to learn on the lord’s …show more content…
Another path my study into patience lead me was to a talk by Stephen E. Robinson entitled “Enduring to the end”. In this talk he talks about not just enduring to the end of a something but how it is hard to endure to the end of morality. But what he thinks is the true meaning of Enduring to the end is “in general, entering into the gospel covenant (through faith in Christ, repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost) and then remaining faithful to that covenant.” I had always thought of enduring to the end as a mortal thing but after reading about this and also the talk from Elder Uchtdorf that priesthood and the gospel are all patience builders and that we will learn patience throughout our lives as we are true to our priesthood and magnify our calling in the priesthood. Another example of patience is in the Book Of Mormon and says “Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith.”. (Mosiah 23:21) From the study into this I have see that patience is something that will never be perfected in this life. I see that this will take many lifetimes to perfect and learn and become perfect at being
It is possible to teach yourself how to be patient when you are waiting for someone to finish part of the report, or waiting in line at the grocery store. As you feel your body tense up, and you feel the sudden urge to yell at the person for being slow, relax and be patient. Many of us are impatient at times. We lose control of our patience and it hurts not only us, but the people around us as well. To manage patience, you first need to find the cause or triggers. Stop and think to yourself, what caused this stress and urge to be impatient? Many people also become impatient because of hunger, dehydration, or fatigue. Now, to manage the symptoms of being impatient you need to follow these steps. First, take deep, slow breaths. This will help slow your heart rate and distance yourself from the situation. Next, try and relax your body. Tensing up will only cause more stress and result in being impatient. Try and manage your emotions as well. You can choose to be impatient, or you can make the best of the situation. How you react is entirely up to you and how you manage yourself in a stressful situation. Remind yourself that if you are being impatient, it will not motivate others to move faster. It can be a distraction to many, and cause a slower rate of return when doing anything that involves focus. I used to be impatient during reports or group work because I wanted it done a certain way, and in a timely
My family taught me about Jesus at a young age, so I always knew I wanted to have a close relationship with him. Knowing that God is going to have my back no matter what was the best feeling to me. He will never leave a person or turn his back on them. The fact that the Bible guides people is one of the amazing things to me because one scripture can change a person whole life. My discourse community teaches a person about faith, love, and everything a person will ever need in life. Jesus encourages people, and supports people when they fail. Being a Christian motivates me and gives me a meaning of life. Being saved is easy, but the hard part is following his guidelines. He knows people are going to make a lot of mistakes in life, but the fact that he doesn’t judge them is amazing. Accepting Christ means a person has escaped that judgment and therefore they will have external life. Being a part of this discourse community has brought me to a new place in life, and for that I am
Patience to me is having the strength to wait out something. Most of the time it is some sort of hardship or set back. Take my life for example. I have not always been very good at football. When I first started out in sports I pretty much only played soccer. I didn’t really know what football was even though my dad was a huge fan. I stuck with soccer until I was about seven or eight years old. That is when my family moved to Florida. Because of that move I began to experience new things. The fields where I played soccer also had youth football going. I began to take interest so my mom signed me up for flag football. During my first year I was still learning the ground rules so I wasn’t exactly a breakout star. But in time I started to perfect my craft. So when tackle football rolled around, and I was old enough to play, the coaches started to take notice.
...sense? My next biggest thing would be the knowledge of what is wrong but giving into the flesh. I guess that would be what the people standing around the cross were doing.
The word patience can be linked to the fact that Chris and his group have long been working since 2008 to successfully release a self-driving car, but yet haven’t released the final versions of it. Similarly, I am highly inspired by the idea of one article, “When Waiting is Weightless: The Virtue of Patience”, where author, Joseph H. Kupfer uses different concepts to talk about the importance of being patient. The line, “Patience is an instrumental virtue. It is instrumental in two respects: with regard to particular ends and with regard to other virtues. As we have seen, patience enables us to achieve our ends, or to achieve them better than would otherwise be the case,” clearly motivates everyone to be aware of the prospective benefits of our current patience and hard work. For instance: A number of college dropouts happen in the freshman year. Most of the drop outs have a mindset that college degree isn’t necessary for the future, so they are not patient enough to think ahead of time and visualize the opportunities after graduating from college. Although, I was never this intolerant, but I also wasn’t very optimistic about my success in future either. However, after listening to this talk, I have a feeling that raw ideas take a long time to convert into a beneficial product. This talk also helped me realize the power of unity in a group. Chris, in the talk constantly uses the word “team” to relate to his partners
The goodness of God can inspire a person to do the best things not because he is obligated to do it, but because the love of Christ inspires him to do so. Also, I want others to see that Christianity is not just about the dos and don’ts, but it is about the love for Christ and what He can do through me, and for me.
One of the biggest strengths that comes along with a Christian Worldview is that I am able to believe that God has the power to change my life. The benefit of having a Christian Faith is that God guides my path and fulfills my life with love and strength to continue my life on earth. It is confusing at times to understand why humans that are trying to live a righteous life, still have obstacles coming their way. But then again I think about how the world was curse due to the Fall of humanity. The good thing about Christian Faith is that it influences us to be humble and love one another. This changes our behavior on how we act when we dislike or disagree with something or someone. We are able to be more patients and understanding towards those that do not share our worldview. One of the weaknesses that come with Christian Faith is that we are not able to avoid being
To start the act of spanking is one of the main forms of disciplines that parents resort to when their children disobey them. Timeout however, is a form of discipline that is used in schools or other environments where a biological parent is not present. Timeout is the act of removing a child away from a social environment to be on their own. It is a quiet period in which the child can calm down. It is also one of the main forms of discipline recommended by the Arkansas Department of Human Services. It is important because the timeout will not harm the bond the child has made with their caretaker. The bond between a child and a caretaker is the key in a child’s early development. A child will conform and adapt their attitude and personality
The first attribute that should be taken into consideration when trying to change the world, is being brave. “Then I looked up, and my heart almost stopped. I was encircled by dark-skinned, naked men, with huge bows drawn taunt. Nine little dots of arrowheads pointed right at me” (Olson 70). This awkward situation happened to Bruce Olson, as described in his book Bruchko. As Bruce was surrounded by Motilone Indians in the jungle, one could tell that he was still determined to fulfill God’s mission planned for him. Bruce showed that he was not backing down because of any obstacles, such as Indians that got in his way. Another example is a Psalm of David: “The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?” (NIV Teen Study Bible Psalms 27.1) This Bible verse says it all. It explains how someone would need to be trusting in God and have a brave spirit that is reassured by His love. Also, in the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he expresses this warning, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong” (NIV Teen Study Bible, 1 Corinthians 16.13). This verse further explains that God wants us to be brave and ready, to fight against sin and to join God’s army!
Most of the people can do one thing very well. Is it possible for us to do any task good you need to do like a pro? Yes, I believe it is possible, because, I have done and I often succeed to be good at the task that I need to do. And, it is possible for any of you to do it by using few crucial elements in a right way; and those are persevere, enthusiastic, observant, consistency and eagerness.
Knowing Christ 's character traits help us chose correctly. By looking at the fruits of the spirit as the 9 qualities that we all should show to be like Christ, helps us make the right choices in life. God develops and ripens these fruits by allowing us to experience temptations where we are faced with either growing more loving, patient, full of joy, grace, knowledge, self-control, etc, or by growing in the opposite direction. Life is a choice and God uses circumstances to teach us what He needs us to learn. Joy is based on our relationship to God and is not to be equated with happiness which is based on circumstances. The fruits of the spirit are developed in us as we become closer to Christ. Chaos and Peace, lies and truth, irritation and patience, are all opposites and signs we are either growing closer or further from our Master’s desire for us. Satan is predictable, he wishes to trip us up and use our weaknesses. First, he uses a specific pattern to do this in our lives, and one needs to be able to recognize it. He finds a desire inside of us, he suggest with a thought that we should pursue it, it starts in the mind and moves into the heart. Satan then will try to get us to doubt God’s word and plan for us. Next, Satan will lie to us to get us to believe that it will be okay and tries to convince us that there is no real consequence. Lastly, the temptation leads us into disobedience and traps us in the sin. To overcome temptation one needs to refuse to become intimidated in the first place. Understanding that we will never outgrow temptation helps us learn it is a process to become strong against Satan. Temptation from Satan is actually to be seen as a compliment because it is a sign that Satan hates those who are followers of Christ, is fearful of those trying to make a difference for Christ, and is
Romans 4: 18-21 Paul describes how righteousness requires an endurance of obedience. (Abraham in romans) (4b)
I, first of all, am not that picky when it comes to a spouse, as long as I am attracted to them as they are to me. I would want my significant other to have good cleaning abilities. I would want her to have that, because I’m not very tidy, but maybe in a couple years I will be able to start being a little bit cleaner. She would also be willing to withstand long car rides or plane trips, mostly because I enjoy traveling. Last, but certainly not least, she would have to be patient. The sole reason for why she would have to be patient, is because I plan on having a kid or two of my own. Then again, she would have to be willing to have the child.
I have almost gone into hiding, if you will, from God because I feel that I cannot be forgiven over and over of the same sins. “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” (New International Version, Romans 7.15). I realize, however, that in my weakness that Jesus’s power is made perfect. “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12.7-10). The absence of the fruits of the Spirit in my life inhibits the kingdom of God in my life in that His power is not fully noticed in my actions and character. Being in Christ and belonging to His kingdom sets me apart from the world and so I am to live for Him and serve him while seeking His kingdom first. When lost in my desires of the flesh, I am not seeking His kingdom. Rather, I am seeking my own desires and
