In a time where wars ravaged lands and slavery abounded, the need of missionaries grew. However, these missionaries had to exceed all expectation and become reformers as well. In the midst of vast knowledge being discovered someone needed to have a positive influence that did not point toward success or desire to be remembered. As travel grew easier through the railroad and steam engines reformers began to have the ability to go farther than ever before. They took the forms of doctors, missionaries, inventors, and so much more. Each one played their part in a bigger story that now after 2 centuries we are finally able to stand back and look at with new appreciation and knowledge.
The 1800’s were swimming with knowledge. They brought to pass some of vital beliefs that are still around today. It started the ball rolling in several different directions. Most of the world had been discovered by this point. However, mysteries still remained to be uncovered. Charles Darwin emerged with his theories of evolution which changed the entire culture’s outlook on life. Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Marie Curie along several others also made their mark in the scientific world. Then Napoleon and Abraham Lincoln, strong leaders for good and evil, changed the course of their countries. People were greatly entertained by Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, and the Wild West show. It changed people’s outlook on what the west was and how it came to be. The oil business came to life underneath John D. Rockefeller’s special care. James Bowie made an appearance and left us with the bowie knife. Kit Carson traveled coast to coast unveiling America’s beautiful secrets. ...time. There were so many great men and women in the 1800s it can be easy to forget the missionaries. However, he was not only a missionary. He was a doctor, an explorer, and a faithful father. He never let obstacles get in the way of him succeeding or of his missions work. He conquered doubt and fear and choose to extraordinary.
