Christianity and Islam
Most of the contemporary problems bedeviling our society are because of lack of proper spiritual anchorage. Civil and technological differentiations embodied in the media have aggravated the situation. Technological differentiation has undermined religion by taking the place of spirituality in adherents’ lives.
Religion is an organized collection of beliefs and cultural systems that entail the worship of a supernatural and metaphysical being. “Religion just like other belief systems, when held onto so much, can stop one from making significant progress in life”. Together with religion come traditions that provide the people with ways to tackle life’s complexities. A subscription to the school of thought of great scholars like Prothero and Portiero (Prothero 3-24).
Christianity just like Islam is a belief system. When do people choose to adopt a belief system and why? “Belief systems that are the basis of our religions develop in us either as a cultural phenomenon that happens on exposure to such belief systems during our formative years”. In many instances once under exposure to them, people adopt them as theirs. Another reason on why people choose to adopt a belief system justifies the proposition by Prothero and Portiero; to deliver their expectations that are otherwise metaphysical (Dorothy 13-28).
Religion is a fundamental fragment of our social fabric that makes up society since it asserts the peoples ' lives have to go through a system of checks that make up the belief system. The result of this system of checks is the breeding ground of vulnerability in religion. Best exemplified by the persecution acts of Saul of Tarsus in the Bible against Christians. Poverty in both religions has become the breeding ground of helplessness that has portrayed religion in a bad way. Sometimes as a threat to socio-economic and political stability in society what is otherwise expected to be the beacon of peace and tranquility.
