Our goal is to carry out our profession with good conduct, being mindful in each situation of how we are behaving. It is also important to be alert and wise in order to make any necessary adjustments immediately so that we can be a positive influence in our work environment. The next time someone says – “I think it would be great if you could meet ‘so and so’ I think you would really like each other” – get the information and make sure you reach out to that person. 2. Get comfortable introducing yourself…my favorite introduction is ‘I don’t believe we have met…my name is ----“ 3. Be politely persistent if you really want to meet someone…coffee is always a safe option. 4. If you know someone who knows the person you want to meet, then be courageous enough to ask them to help you by making an introduction for you (this is my favorite!) 5. Always be nice to everyone. You have no idea who you are in contact with or better yet who they may know so treat everyone the same – with utmost respect (I cannot stress this one enough). 6. It’s never too late to start networking the right way. So start reconnecting and strengthening existing relationships and form new ones too. It could be the one move you need to make to reenergize your career and introduce you to some great people who could become great friends and provide richness and diversity in your personal life. 7. Networking is not a sprint it’s more like a marathon – it takes time and could be years before you start to see the real benefit materialize. So have a long-term
