Many families who have severely disabled children hope to find a cure for this malignant life issue caused by a genetic defect. An example of why parents would want this ability is because they are desperate to help their children. Putting myself in the same position as parents to these severely disabled children, I have much sympathy for those parents. A parent of a genetically defective child would want to halt their child from developing the disease. It would mean so much to them to have a healthy child. Even though a defective child is the worst possible news, it helps to have a sliver of hope. We as people of the community should aspire to be conscious to parents at risk of children inheriting these incurable anomalies. No one should inhibit these parents from eradicating these diseases in their children or future generations. A good example of someone answering these parents is David Cameron, the United Kingdom Prime Minister, who voted in the permit for the creation of IVF babies with genetic material from three different people to allow different women to implant DNA strands from a donor egg into one of their own eggs. The creation of these babies would prevent mitochondrial diseases from being passed down from mother to child. Crossing an ethical line for a parent to save their child from their own faulty genes should be considered because the good deed of correcting a child is worth it. A child who carries her mother’s faulty disease faces an illness that targets the vital organs and this might mean the child will never walk or talk, and is likely to die within a few...

...ns. We should consider going further into what is needed, rather than an ideal that may not happen. This technology will affect people’s traits because it will create different type of people. For years, our parents have loved us for who we are, so the quality of life cannot justify parents’ unconditional love to their children. I believe that this unconditional love will unite with gene technology to face humanly inevitable disease. Will we create the healthy babies that thousands of families wish for? There is a slight possibility that the disease could still transfer to the baby causing more issues and therefore, the genetic modification might not enhance the quality of life, the consequences should be examined. While curing a disease by creating a different person should not be accepted, authorities should instead look into researching cures for these diseases.
