When you are a project manager of a major project, one thing is certain, when the project is over, your reputation in your organization will either be better or worse depends on the how the project works out. This book is designed to help all project managers take charge of any major project and its individual responsibility. Michael Thomsett covers all the stages for a project to succeed. He stuffs a massive and impressive amount of words into 205 pages, although few times the text reads as if it is also the product of flow chart. Thomsett views on project management as more science than art, for example, that project managers should not build a “fudge factor” or “float into their budgets”. If you already are an accomplished project manager this book will seem basic to you. However if you recently started on this part or share the basics with your team member, you will find it quite helpful and

Leadership is one important trait that characterizes a project manager. As a leader, he must possess the proper knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) needed to lead a project team toward project success. This is where his leadership competency is being measured. In this regard, organizations base their selection process on the project manager’s competencies not only on leadership but also on his behavior and other characteristics. In the United States, recruiters value more on experience and education (p.38).
Making ready to move internally in the organization to become a project manager needs technical skills and management skills like analytical skills and cognitive thinking.
Many students do not understand or realize how important project management would be helpful to them and their careers. It is for this reason that many students do not study project management. The absence of the knowledge on how imperative venture administration is making a lot of understudies needs all the benefits and the advantages that come with project management. Project management plays a prominent role in almost each and every careers study and partially all organizations, (Weske, 366). The knowledge of Project Management can be applied everywhere. But many people have not realized this; they instead despise it and do not consider it when choosing their careers. There are several advantages that Project Management has on Business Administration
“Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to organisational and project activities to achieve the aims of an organisation through projects” (PMI, 2003).
In the globalized economy, Successful project managers are in much demand across many industries. Organizations strongly need experienced project managers to lead their staff to accomplish their business goals and deliver successful projects. In an increasingly complex environment, project managers need to turn into many roles and have all kinds of responsibilities at each level of management within an organization. Good project managers are not born. They need to be trained. They develop their skills through study, practise and experience. They become better project managers after they finish a successful project each time. They learn new techniques and apply them on their projects. They learn their lessons from failed projects and then improve to be better project managers in the future.
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
To help me with my career goal of working in a project management position, I have already taken steps to boost my project management skills through self-study. I regularly read books on the subject of project management, and also like to read about the development of important projects in the news. During the course of working in project management roles in the past I attended short workshops and training courses to help me in my role. At present I am also studying towards the examination to obtain the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional
The project manager has to be skilled in many areas of an organization and usually has to work under less than ideal situations. The areas noted earlier are important but probably the most important area is the behavior of the project manager. The behavior of the manager is critical for the success of any project. If the manager has a bad attitude then the team will be lacking in enthusiasm and the project will likely be over budget and not on schedule. Leading by example is hard, especially when stress of the project is mounting. Corporate leaders influence the managers who influence the employees the same goes for project managers leading teams. The project manager must have discipline and be constantly aware of how personal actions are perceived by others (Gray/Larson, 2011).
