Choosing a career path was not easy. I wanted to be able to do so many task that did not fit into certain criteria. My main goal in life is to be able to help those that need support. Getting a psychology degree was a leverage because I could get my degree in this field and use it to help others out. I wanted to be a psychodynamic therapist when I started classes, but after finding out there are more career paths available, I decided to enter the work force of being a victim advocate.
By being a victim advocate, I will be able to support crime victims when they most need it. In general, a victim advocate is available to all crime victims. I could be working with victims of child abuse, domestic violence, assault, sexual assault and furthermore. I would like to be able to prevent these cases but since I cannot, just being able to support the victim and find a way of justice for them brings me joy.
My main function is to have a trusting personality, so the crime victims feel safe. Having excellent communication skills is a great trait, too. Also, being emotionally strong is essential because you are going to be dealing with many psychological needs, from depression to trauma.
Crimes are the main cause as to why we have victim advocates, so as crime rates rise so does the occupation for them. The workplace usually associated would be courts, legal offices, and police stations. (Were most crime victims assemble to in desperate measures.) Having good knowledge of the legal systems is crucial, because you will be the informative to your victim of his/her legal rights.

There are many more task that you have to do, but by reading these few I have determined that this is what I want to be involved in.
By researching about this at an early start, I hope to be able to work my way towards this career path. In my sophomore year of college, I could join group organizations that help the homeless as personal experience. Keeping my grades up is also a must do if I want to be able to complete all necessary classes to earn my degree.
Over all, being able to help out is my objective and I hope to reach that goal by completing my bachelors in psychology and receiving my certification in NACP. Achieving what you want is not easy sometimes but with determination success will come.
