Michael Pollan once said, “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.” In order to give my body the energy it needs I should make healthier decisions. Our bodies need some foods to stay strong and others it doesn’t need at all. If we eat a lot of junk food it can contribute to illness because it doesn’t give us the right nutrients that our body needs. In order to accomplish this challenge, I will have to eat 3 – 5 servings of vegetables and 2-4 servings of fruits a day. I will do this by mixing vegetables into some dishes. Instead of having a brownie for dessert I will make a salad of different fruits. Vegetables and fruits are high fiber and contain many vitamins and minerals. I will also have to limit food and drinks that are high in calories, sugar, and fat. Instead of drinking soda I will drink more water. Avoiding junk food is going to be one of my hardest things to do. However, Junk food only makes you feel good for awhile, then it makes you feel tired. We should only eat food that gives us benefits such as vitamins. I have noticed that people that are really healthy are the once that eat mostly fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Yes, junk food might taste good, however, it isn’t good for my body. To accomplish this challenge, I have to take many steps to protect my body. Now, that I know what I need to do to eat and live a healthier lifestyle; I am going to do this challenge. Many people that I know who have tried to eat healthier have succeeded. Many of them said that it will not be easy in the beginning but eventually it will become a routine. Now that I told you what is my challenge is, I want you to challenge yourself and find out what steps you will need to complete that challenge. Joshua J.
