It has been shown that adverse childhood experiences not only result in a reduced quality of life but also increase the likelihood of participation in risky health behaviors. This study further revealed that having more than one adverse childhood experience more than doubles the risk factors. Apart from the long-term health consequences, abuse and neglect have direct impacts on physical health, such as bruises, broken bones, burns, sexually transmitted infections, and starvation, to name a few.
