There are many different care fields you can go into as a social work from mental health, drug and alcohol abuse all the way to child welfare. Child welfare is my primary target when I become a social worker. I feel that I will have the biggest impact if I help the kids out that will be creating our future world. If I can help the kids of the next generation then maybe my influence will help more than just those few kids I see every day. Plus ever since I can remember people told me I need to be doing a job that helps children. I want to be able to make a difference in the community, and if I can help the kids, then I know I’ll be helping the community. Being a student at Wilmington College will help me fulfill these values and skills, but the thing that will give me a hand, even more, is being a Quaker. Quaker’s have many values just like the school. The college is built around the Quaker religion, and the Quaker religion is based on six values. These values are known as the Quaker SPICES (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and stewardship). When you look at Wilmington colleges values compared to the Quaker SPICES, there are some values that are the same and some are different. But this should be how it should be. It might be a Quaker college, but they don’t have to have the same values as the Quaker religion. I do know though that all the values the school wants us to have and what the Quakers have will help me tremendously, though. How will this give me a hand when it comes to becoming a child welfare specialist? What is child welfare and how does it affect us globally? What values and skills will I need and achieve as I become a social worker in the child welfare area?

As a child welfare specialist, I know there will be many up and downs to this jobs. I know though that I am at the right college, though. Wilmington College will set me on the right track to success because of the values and skills they want us to accomplish. We are just not getting a degree here we are learning so much more that will help us become better employees. Things that will make corporations want to higher us. I know that there are some values that I will struggle with and especially some skills, but I know before I leave Wilmington College I will be able to work out these little things and become the best child welfare specialist I can be.
