By definition, sense perception is whereby the idea of sense is referred to the external stimulus in which we perceive our knowledge through while perception is defined to be the awareness towards something through our senses. Long before we learned how to use language, reasoning, faith, or emotions, we have already been making use of our external stimuluses’ to make sense or even be conscious of the world. This makes sense perception our primary source of obtaining knowledge since it is the only way for us to interact with the world around us. However, though it plays a requisite part for us in attaining knowledge, sense perception can both impede and limit our understanding of the world. In this essay, the strengths and weaknesses of sense perception will be discussed using various areas of knowledge.

One of the strengths of sense perception is that it is the channel of communication between the world and us. It enables us to gather fundamental insights about the world, which we will then subsequently assess through conducting inductive reasoning before concluding with a theory or claim. For example, in the area of knowledge of the natural sciences, the knowledge we know of today is based on the theories deduced by scientists through the experiments they have conducted. The theories and claims in Biology, made by the scientists started out with them attaining raw data from the experiments, which consist mainly of observations made of the changes in a process. These changes can range from the change in colour, texture to sizes, which primarily requires the engagement of our senses. By collating these data, scientists are then able to find a pattern and with the involvement of reasoning, they are able to develop on or deduce a...

Evidently, sense perception can result in the misinterpretation of things, especially when it only involves one of our senses. Besides due to our reliance on all of our sensory faculty to make sense of the world, we sometimes conclude based on the data received from our sensory organs, without the application of reasoning.

In conclusion, sense perception bears the brunt in us gathering knowledge due to it being the primary and fundamental way in which we interact with our surroundings. However, it brings about much weakness along with it due to the imperfection of humans, which affects the way we verify and affirm our knowledge. Nevertheless, sense perception is critical as a way for us to attain knowledge in this world.
