The introduction of the cell phones in the United States dates back to the eighties. The spread and usage of cell phones in the global market has steadily increased over the years. People, adults and children, are now days using cell phones to a large context. There are a myriad of reasons why many people use the cell-phones; the gadgets aid in the transmission of information from one person to the other over a short time frame. This is regardless of whether the target receptor is at home, driving an automobile, in the office, and while attending to other important chores. Unlike in the past when mobile phones were considered to be a style and fashion gadgets, today they are seen as a necessity and utility devices. This paper discussed three major types of distracted driving and they include; cognitive, manual, and visual. The nature of the type of distracted driving depends largely on the exact intrusion activity but mobile phone usage involves all the three types of distractive activities; manual, visual, and cognitive. There are several dangers associated with distracted driving. Firstly, the driver becomes inconsiderate of other road users; an action that intricate road usage by other drivers. Secondly, the simultaneous use of mobile phones and driving comprises the driver’s ability to observe the traffic road signs. Thirdly, besides the breaking of the road signs, there is the violation of the regulations governing the road use. Fourthly, poor road use sets a ‘bad’ picture to the younger generations, who observe their seniors for mentorship and guidance. Finally, driving while using cell phones reduces perception; perception is directly correlated to performance. Addressing the challenge requires introduction of self-controlled automotives, collaboration among the stakeholders, older generations setting direction to the young, and putting in place and implementing appropriate
